Thank you, that's what I thought... no meter engagement pin on the D80.

Correct, though to be precise, it's a pin coupling to the meter on the really old cameras. On newer ones, it's a flange coupling at the base of the lens (AI / AIS). The D80 has neither of these as it's purely electronic. The D7000 has both electronic and the mechanical flange coupling.

I just dug out my old FE2, put in fresh batteries (still readily available), and loaded a roll of Velvia 100. I'm going to do some old-fashioned film shooting and will post the results here if I get any good ones. :)

Looking forward to seeing them... do you have it developed commercially? My favorite processor just closed his doors.

Hmmmm, I looked at a pic of the D7000... didn't see the coupling pin in the picture.

Also, any other digital bodies (preferably less expensive than D7000) that can couple with my old lenses that you know of?

Yes, there's a lab in town that develops film; C41, E6, and B&W.

See pic below. It's easy to miss.

The D7000 is the least expensive body that's retro-compatible to AI/AI-s. A less expensive alternative would be a used one from a reputable dealer. Here's a link to a chart that shows what works with what. (About halfway down the page under Digital SLRs.)

True, although I'd go for a reconditioned D600 instead. It can do everything a D7000 can do, and is full frame. About the same body size and weight. I've had both, and almost never used the D7000 once I got the D600.

Looking at your "Nikon Lens Compatibility -kenrockwell" site, it looks like I have "Pre AI" lenses... they work with my old Nikkormat EL - mid 70's.

The Nikkormat body has a rotating prong that protrudes about 1/4 inch. I don't think the D7000 body will work.

Maybe I'm just wasting time trying to use my old lenses on a digital body...???

There's a chance that your old lenses could be converted to AI if you wanted to go to the trouble and expense. (Note the "AI Converted" column on the chart.) Otherwise you're SOL.

    Thank you, saw that...

    Appreciate your help very much.

Probably won't go that route; I'll just be SOL... :)
