Agree love the e46 m3 though personally I enjoyed driving the e36 and e90 more. For some reason they felt a bit more connected
Yeah, I had two e36 325i (s) before this M3 & they felt noticeably lighter. The S54 is just mind blowing though, and the older cars in the garage fill the need for that more raw feel now...admittedly, in the summer the e46 might get driven the least. I work from home so any trip out is an excuse to take an old 911 (or as of last month, the 308). Looking forward to an early spring. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Speaking of M3s, have you seen the new M3 and M4? Very nice!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very good designs. I'm afraid that they may have become too soft, like the F10 M5, but hopefully we'll find out soon. Because of the new turbo engines I am becoming obsessed with the M3 CRT E90! Doesn't have a manual gearbox, but it has the 444hp GTS N/A V8 engine and tons and tons of CF and rear bucket seats too... Only 67 made. Probably my second most favorite M-car after the legendary E39 M5 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMavUW0kY-U]BMW M3 CRT at the Nurburgring | INSIDE evo - YouTube[/ame] I believe the CSL (E46) and this CRT is going to go down as BMW legends. Where I'm from the CRT is secondhand 458 Italia money, which makes it stupid expensive (just like the Lexus LFA - superb, but not really worth that much in my mind), so I'll keep dreaming
The stats are equally impressive. Power power and a lot less weight. Three pedals for the best type of driving. I just can't get used to calling the coupe an m4 but I'm sure that'll change in time
3.9 to 60 with the DCT, 4.2 with 3-pedal. What brought a smile to my face was seeing peak torque available from 1850 RPM onwards. 400 ft-lbs.
Call me oldfashioned, but I don't like it. Design wise, it's not that bad. It doesn't have the compactness and simplicity of the e36 M3, but than few cars do. It's a bit too shouty for my taste. I would go for the F31 Alpina D3 bi-turbo Touring.
Well.. It looks like the car is mine. After a bit of back and forth, we came to a cash deal. I can't believe I got it for the price I did! I'll have the car next week and post some pictures. M-sport 6 speed, loaded except for nav, 17k in receipts since 08. One of 1265 made world wide..had no idea the thing was so rare...
Yeah, the new M3 is making it very hard for me to justify buying a 03/04 Ferrari 360, when I can buy one of these with a 4 year/50k miles warranty and maintenance.....I know you can't compare the two and so what if the M3/M4 make more power/torque, is newer, etc....just hard financially. I know it is all about the passion though....
I do find it refreshing that BMW dumped the V8 and returned to the I6 for the new M addition of the M4 series, I'm just a fan of I6's more than V8's and 420hp is not bad.
I'm just glad that 1) this car will have turbos and the aftermarket retailers will soon provide tunes, upgraded turbos, downpipes, the works to put it into 600+ rwhp/tq and 2) over 400 lb/ft torque with over 7500rpm redline....should be quite a stout car!
If you're making that argument from a financial perspective, it's not a very good one. The amount of money you will lose on a the M over four years will be loads more than you would spend maintaining a properly sorted 360. It wouldn't even be close. What you should be saying is that it's hard to justify losing so much money on a mass produced car over four years. Now, if you're saying that it's easier to get financing on the BMW because you're not paying cash or you don't have the necessary cash reserves for Ferrari ownership so BMW maintenance would be easier or something like that, then that's a completely different financial argument and one for which I have no rebuttal. I know that for me personally, if it were a choice between a well sorted Ferrari - ANY Ferrari, even a GT4 - and any new BMW M car, I wouldn't be buying the BMW. I'm not saying they're not fast. I'm just saying that I would rather drive something with way more style and feel, something more engaging, something with a far greater "sense of occasion," so to speak, even if that means giving up some speed. Although I have never been one who cares about having the latest and greatest so maybe I just don't get it.
I guess for me it boils down to the fact that I've never really bought a "new" car, always CPO and I could even do the European Delivery....definitely not the first year, I would wait the 2nd year. The point is, I'm looking from the financial point of, and keep in mind I'm a BMW maniac, should I get a 10 year old Ferrari that could be great (or even have every possible thing go wrong), or should I buy a brand new M3/M4....its a tough decision, FOR ME. I don't need the latest and greatest...I have a 91 and a 97 BMW...I'm just thinking in the terms of NEW w/ warranty, European Delivery...the whole buying new experience. I'm not really saying one is better than the other.
Well, you certainly love what you love and there's no point in buying something that's not what you love. Also, European Delivery is super cool. I hope that one day I can do something like that although I rarely buy new cars.
Thanks Mario, I've always liked Royal blue though I don't think there's many colours that aren't suited to the lines of the E24. My previous 635. Image Unavailable, Please Login
THat's true. My favorite 80's BMW color is Lapisblau. I saw it on a 735i once and I was seriously considering it for when I repaint my 635 (hopefully early 2014), but in the end I'm going to go with the original Diamantschwarz.
Interesting craigslist ebay find... Euro import 323i... it has too many doors, just a plain jane old bimmer... I am trying to talk myself out of going to see it in person (it's here local to me). I'm afraid if it's as clean as advertised, I'll buy it! BMW 3 Series 323i | eBay UPDATE '84 BMW 323I RARE GERMAN e30 It probably wouldn't appreciate in value a heck of a lot, so it would be a fun, 30-year-old daily driver, don't you think!?
