Fascinating posts Len, thanks. Can you confirm which publication the October 1977 newspaper article is from? Thanks in advance.

I think "Automotive News" is simply an excerpt page from a Newspaper?

In other words, its the page dedicated to Automotive News inside a paper. Perhaps Len can clarify.

I would agree with this 100%...

PLUS the funds Lamborghini expended for its development to get to the Geneva show, having NO DNA of Lamborghini other then a Badge and a few stickers and be present with "other" Lamborghini's on their assigned area for the show. A true "stick" your toe in the water and see what happens..

AND I think from there, what happened is it was further developed on and reversed engineered by Lamborghini in their factory after leaving Geneva and prior to returning back to its rightful owners in the USA.

In time giving us what we now know as the LM 002 truck.

Mr. Robert W. Irvin was an Editor at Large with the Detroit News newspaper, so you'd be correct. From what I found on the internet, he wrote many automotive articles (a lot having to do with AMC) for the paper.

Joe, Automotive News is also an OEM focused trade publication owned by Crain Communications in Detroit.

Greg's info is 100% correct. I just read the bio on Bob Irvin on the Automotive Hall of Fame website. Quite a researcher it seems, and was evidently very well respected in the automotive world. Too bad he passed away so very young.

I would love to know how the "Cheetah" was titled when Roy bought it and of course how it was titled when it sold? Seems like a legit question given the many questions surrounding the vehicle.

Prototype vehicles do not carry titles...they are sold on a Bill of Sale.

Next time you watch the Auctions, such as Mecum, Barrett-Jackson etc etc...listen when they advise:

"See note for non-conforming VIN# and/or SOLD on a bill of sale only"

Same with Race cars, not designed or licensed for the street, no title, bill of sale only.

I don't believe any Cheetah has ever been titled.

The one driven in Europe used Swiss plates. If I remember correctly in Swiss, each license plate is linked to one individual, not one car. So the driver may have just used the plates of one of his car to drive that Cheetah on the roads.

So was it sold as a Lamborghini or how was it sold?

that would be an interesting post!

Even race cars and concept cars are sold as a particular make regardless of title or shi and display exemption so I am curious how this was bought and sold... Seems like a fair question.

SO your first question was answered as asked...HOWEVER it was not what you meant?

I think what you are asking is:

What did the "Bill of sale" describe the item as bought and sold...is that what you really mean?

interesting because I believe that based on this thread and all of your emphatic assertions...I believe that the buyer bought something that was represented as something it clearly was not.

if I had bought that bitsa (a term that may even overstate what that jeep actually is?) based on information that you represented in this thread alone, I would expect to have my money refunded.

is the buyer aware of this thread? I suspect not.
