355 Cold Storage?

    Hello forum....just another general question for all 355 owners. I am actively looking for a 355, I have a nice space for it to spend its winter but it is not heated. I had planned on adding heat this Fall but as it turns out we will be relocating in a year or so....I have kept p-cars stored without any issues at all, as well as ducks and other toys....just curious how the owners out there would feel about their 355 seeing 10 degree or lower temps (interior concerns are what I am thinking). I can always just add the furnace anyway, its really not too bad an expense......but I will be leaving it shortly, so I'm looking for opinions.

    It was -30F at my house the other day, The 355 is out in the unheated garage, I'm not too worried, I just won't plop down in one of the seats until its thawed. The antifreeze was good for it last time I checked it.

    As mentioned, as long as you are careful with the flexible parts (seats, plastic stuff) you are better off with it in cold storage. Many people brag about their car stored in a heated garage. Do you know that the rate of chemical reactions generally double for every 10 C rise in temperature? Do you know that rust and corrosion are chemical reactions?

    As said before it. Is just a car. It will be fine. That being said I would probably not start it at 40 below.

    You cannot, because the oil would be the consistency of honey. And there isn o way to magnetically attach a block heater to the aluminum oil pan on the Ferrari.

    Not trying to strata big discussion but I start my canadian cars in -40 just about every year atleast once with the same 15-40 mobile synthetic. Just would not do it to my ferrari unless I had too.

    How in the world is a heated garage a problem? So I suppose a cold car is just as bad as a warm car? Ok, what temp should we run these?

    I keep my garage 50-55 and it's all fine.

    Of course a warm garage is bad. That is why we don't store our cars in the summer; the garage is too hot. If it weren't for winter we would be forced to drive our cars all year round. Think of the poor guys in the south, SW, and in CA. They never get a break. Drive, dive, drive, all year round. They never get a chance to store their cars and put them to bed under their blankets. And the poor cars never get the needed rest they deserve. Cars are like bears, they need to hibernate. We really need to report those guys to the SPCF (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Ferraris.) We in the wintery states are much more fortunate. :)

    Seriously, the idea that heated garages are a bad is for cars that are driven all winter. Dive the car in the winter and it gets packed with snow and ice and salt and sand. The worst thing you can do is store such a car in a heated garage because all that crap is constantly thawing and leaving a rust promoting soup in every nook and cranny. Better to have the car stay cold so the thawing cycles as infrequently as possible. Anyway, that was the argument.

    Thanks to all. I am aware that in general its not an issue if its not a heated space....I was thinking more along the interior issues we all know exist, if heated lets say to at least 40F through the winter would be better for these sticky and shrinkage problems....or does it not matter in the least (which is what I am getting from the responses)

    I don't understand, why people use a 15W40oil in their cars.
    The first number indicates the the lowest temperature an oil is pumpable:
    SAE 0W -40°C
    SAE 5W -35°C
    SAE 15W -25°C

    The bad thing is that -at 20°C- it takes almost one minute for a 15W oil to reach all parts in the engine while the 0W and 5W oil only need some seconds.

    Actually with the AC in my 348 which operates about as well as it was designed to do my car doesn't go out much in July and August (one time this year) here in the AZ desert. I guess that qualifies as my "lay up" period. I know, it's a dry heat. :)

    I guess I shouldn't complain but I did drive my car in LA last Friday when the temperature was in the low 40's. For the first few seconds after I started it up, there was a "squealing" sound from the engine compartment. Sounded similar to a belt slipping. It went away after about 10 seconds. I'm running with 10W40 Royal Purple in the car.

    Should I be concerned?
