hi. my father rented a house near the venue for this coming year, for he and my mother, and 2 other couples. all was set until 2 weeks ago when the owner just decided to renege on the rental agreement, sent him back his deposit and cancelled the whole thing.

needless to say, he was not pleased. so now he has a need to rent something to accommodate 3 couples for the amelia island weekend.

    anybody have any good ideas?

Try vrbo.com - Vacation Rentals By Owner. Should have some places still available for the show. I'm staying at the Hoyt House B&B.

AirBNB is the same concept as vrbo, so check it out. You could try staying in Jacksonville and drive in each morning up Hecksher Drive which is an incredible road. It's a bit of a drive, but it'll be cheaper and there should be more things available.

I'm in central Jacksonville and I drive up to Amelia every day of the week of the event. If you can make it as well, I highly advise it.

Is this a car ferry - if so, can you load a scud without scrapping?

The Ferry in Fernindina was loaded up with 14 250 GTOs two years ago and they all seemed to come out okay

You can probably get your Scud on the ferry. I had my Ford GT on there before with no problems.

Yes you can. You can either take I-95 north to Amelia Island or if you're staying closer to the beach, go north on the Dames Point Bridge, then go north on Hecksher Drive which will take to right in front of the Ritz.

In my opinion, a Scud seems to be one of the absolute best cars to take up Hecksher in the early morning. It's got a great mix of curves, straights, and scenery to make up a perfect drive.

Agree 100pcnt about Hecksher. Just watch out for state law enforcement, who can and will write tickets. They drive brown SUVs and pickups. Dont ask me how I know....

Thanks for the tip on that. Also, it's one lane traffic each way, so some over taking will be necessary at times.

For sure - I would suggest not passing on a double yellow either - sadly, don't ask me how I know about that....

Any info you can give is very appreciated. I'll be driving up to Amelia Wednesday through Sunday and would like to avoid any confrontation with local law enforcement.

They used instant on radar on me so I would be real careful there, even with radar detectors on board. I had slowed down to carefully pass a car pulling a trailer. My Valentine One was silent. I passed the trailer unknowingly on a double yellow line. All of a sudden, my radar detector exploded (a LEO was parked sort of in the bushes). Tix for illegally passing and speeding followed. Rather costly endeavor.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully this year they'll be a little more lenient on speeding.

Will you be taking your GT to the Cars & Coffee at the Ritz this year? A few friends and I should have different cars for each day of the show varying in between an FD RX-7, an SL55 AMG, a Saleen S7, and if things work out, an F40 and a Daytona.

This will be the last time I can go to Amelia Wednesday through Sunday for a while since I'm going off to college this summer. Because of this, I'm trying to have as many great car experiences as possible this year.

If anyone would be willing to help towards the cause, let me know! I would appreciate it a lot!

Ross- If you don't mind about an hour drive, then I also highly recommend the Ponte Vedre Inn and Club. There is also a nice hotel in Atlantic Beach called One Ocean. Not sure about where to rent a house though.

I highly recommend driving Heckscher if you're coming from Jacksonville and have the time. This was our drive up last year.. Amelia Cruise | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

As Hilgram said in the above posts, we will be doing another drive up this year hopefully. If anyone is interested in joining let me know! And if anyone in town with their car would like some nice photos Hilgram and I would be happy to shoot. Also took this on the drive to Amelia Amelia Cruise [Explored] | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
