    Wow. Europe.

    I heard it's 40% off in Antarctica.

Antarctica? Europe is arguably the best place to own an Fcar in...

This has been the best insomnia thread since the P4/5 thread! Funny, frustrating, infuriating, and just plain weird. Very entertaining, though.

One thing I'll never understand is bashing the 12-C on looks. I like it better than the 458 in some ways. Especially with respect to the headlights on the 458, which I just don't like. The lines seem more classically beautiful.

I hope the 12-C continues to depreciate, but if McLarens ever get really popular, the rarity could slow that considerably. And if you want to see some serious depreciation, just watch the FF over the next few years. I expect them to drop like rocks.

Now I'm going to sleep. Sleep and perchance to dream. Of a 12-C in my future.

    Cheers,

    George

I understand your point about the 458 headlights. I still think the 458 is iconic and will remain so. The 12-C while attractive, is considered by many to be a generic sports car, a combination of many cars that have come before it. I do like the spider a lot more. Especially with the black vent on a color that contrasts well (yellow, metallic red (kinda wine color)). If I could afford a stable of cars I would own one. With that kind of wealth, resale value would not be a determining factor.

McLarens ARE great cars. I started this thread because there was a contingent of vocal 12-C owners bashing the 458.

My view was that the 458 was better and I wanted to back MY view with commentary from 3rd parties. I started the thread highlighting the poor resale value which is a consideration to many that only could afford one or the other.

Of course poor resale can lead to good resale for the next buyer ASSUMING that the depreciation slows/ stops. Still risky, as there are reasons why the depreciation could continue which have been previously addressed.

    Live the dream!

Buy what you like, but if you can only afford one...

I have owned both cars and the 12C is a very good looking car and not a bad driver either. My dealer was spectacular also. He was just a little far away, about 3-4 hours.

    Best

By the way some of us 12C Owners love the 458 as well and Ferrari's in General.

    I have a similar sentiment - I own a 458 spider but I also think the
12C is a great car especially given that this is McLaren's first effort

Can a Mod change the Title to Lonewolf, since he started the problem. I think Werewolf probably has one of the finest Ferrari collections from what I read in the Super car Section.

This is a major problem for us up here in the PNW. Closest dealer is 12-14 hours away.

Andrew I am a Coupe Guy, if I don't buy a 458, I will get a CS. But 458 right now is the plan.

Wonder how the repair and op costs pan out between Mclaren and Ferrari. There's a video on YouTube were the owner is talking about 3k for a replacement battery and 35k for a worn steering rack. No idea whether that is true, but triple yikes if it is.

Not so much the best place to earn the money to pay for it.
At least best place to drive it.

That's the case for any car if you get the lithium ion battery. I believe you can get them in several makes as an option, and if you let them die by not maintaining them you will be out quite a bit in replacing them.

I'm skeptical of the cost of that repair for $35K. I personally don't believe it. Getting a brand new transmission costs less than that.

McLaren repair bills (parts cost mostly) are astronomical considering how much of a bath initial adopters took on depreciation with the MP4-12C already.

I almost bought one...glad I opted for a gated Maranello last minute.

Thanks for the video. Wow. I really admire McLaren but like anything else you have to know what you're doing. I would imagine (hope?) McLaren will figure out less expensive to repair systems for future models. I wonder what CF tub damage costs to repair?

2012 Wholesale auction value is down to 120k for miles in the high teens - Give it another 12-18 months before it hits high 90's
