watching movies from Apple device to big screen?

    we have a new big screen TV and rented a movie from iTunes, I just hooked the iPad to receiver and we watched it.

    the movie plays in really good quality, but it has this weird jumping and moving around effect. I haven't watched many movies directly on the iPad, but Jennie says that's how it appears watching movies directly on iPad too. so I don't think it is a conversion issue.

    any way to have movies played on or from Apple devices to show normally?

    does that play through iPad, watch your iTunes movies you have bought? Sorry I'm new to all of this.

    Probably not relevant, but some content providers block Airplay - Sky in the UK does it, at least via my VPN. The audio plays, but you only get the Sky logo on the big screen. Kinda sucks as that's my preferred F1 viewing solution.

    There is a very cheap application (I think like $10) called Air Parrot that allows you to broadcast anything on your Mac's screen to the TV.

    It's a nice way around content providers that block airplay -- like Amazon

    Apple TV + Airplay = awesomeness.

    All of my movies are either rented via iTunes (or Amazon/VULU), or stored on my Mac.

    The Apple TV can see all shared media on the Apple TV - allowing any Apple TV throughout the house to play my shared collection of music and media.

    'Problem' with it for me is it doesn't run under IOS, ie, on the ipad. Windows & MacOS it's a neat solution.

    Yes. Apple TV is very handy -- particularly if you want to display content wirelessly from your idevices to your TV.

    BUT keep in mind that a new Apple TV - version 2 or 3 or newer will NOT work with a TV that's more than a year or so old unless it is HDCP compliant.

    There are ways around this if you need help -- I can let you know how. The original Apple TV (version 1 used to have a hard drive of a few hundred gigs and cost 6-800 when I got it a few years back in Canada - but the new one is about $100. They have taken away the hard drive -- but they have added the ability to mirror content from your mobile device which the old ones can't be updated to.

    if your tv is newer and or hdcp compliant it will work great. if you have only DVI or component jacks on your TV and think of just buying a cheap adapter to make it work -- it will not on an older TV if your just using a cheap adapter

    Roku is great. Use twonkybeam to stream from about any device. Via the roku.

    I am surprised about what you say. I have a Pioneer Plasma from at least 7 or 8 years ago and it works perfectly with my Apple TV version 3 through the HDMI port.
