I was watching a DTM race today on FOX3 that took place in Russia. Problem for me, I am in Mexico, narrative was in Spanish. But my real question, would this be the same circuit for the F1 race in 2014? It looked really nice, extremely professional, and also many places for passing. What stood out, it had an Interlagos appeal for the spectator, a stadium like layout. Anyone?
Probably not because the F1 track is in Sochi and I would guess they are now busy getting ready for the Olympics.
Plus, the Sochi circuit remains very much 'under construction' according to Wikipedia. However, poking around turned up a surprising (to me at least) number of permanent circuits there; List of motor racing tracks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Maybe the layout of one of these will give you (us!) a better idea. Sounds like a cool track. According to the DTM site, there was a race this summer at the 'Moscau Raceway' but the above suggests there's at least two possibilities..... Cheers, Ian
Here we go, mystery solved I'm sure.... It only opened last year too.... Moscow Raceway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Cheers, Ian
I believe that is by design: it will get its final shape after the Olympics as it is using some of that infrastructure
I also don't understand why they simply don't use Moscow. MUCH easier to travel too from anywhere in the world (if you want to go). I saw the race live and it looks like a nice track. For F1 they would use the longer track though.
Good point. My guess is for the same reasons the French (and the Koreans) put their track into the middle of nowhere while they had better alternatives: give a boost to the local economy That said a Moscow GP would be way cooler and easier to attend
Exactly. As I read Wiki, this Moscow circuit was built to F1 standards. So why build another facility when Russia could have had a 2013 F1 event? Surprise that Tilke was involved, as this looked a really competitive facility.
To my understanding, the Moscow circuit has a 1T ranking meaning it can host official test sessions (like Jerez, Valencia) but not F1 races.
