355 Exhaust Help Needed

    Chaps - I want to drop the standard muffler system off my 94 355 after Christmas ( I've got it a little present !!!), - is it a bumper off job or can it be done in situ ?. What's the best way to have at it ?

    All words of wisdom most welcome !!.

    Taking the bumper off is quick and easy and makes the muffler swap much easier. Swapping the muffler with it on would be like changing seats through the window to save the trouble of opening the door. Remove the rear wheel well liner and undo the two bolts at the bracket holding the bumper on, have a helper hold the bumper then remove the 4 bolts holding the bumper on at the rear and then slide out from under the car. Grab one end and have your helper slide down to the other then take the bumper away, be sure to watch the wires for the lights.

    you wont be able to get a stock muffler off without taking the bumper off. the heat shield and muffler itself will not fit out from there with the bumper in place. the bumper should take no more than 30 minutes to get off.

    The bumper is only 4 bolts.

    My bumper is also 4 bolts, couple of bolts on each side by the wheel well. Plate light wire and both side marker wires. Need to remove rear wheel well shields as well if I recall correctly. Simple and fast job.

    As well as the bumper, involving rear wheels, rear arch liners 2 13mm nuts behind and the larger 17mm nuts on bumper ( i find a battery driver with short extension just the job for those)
    you also need to remove undertray and heat shield bolts/nuts.
    then from top remove air intake hoses air filter boxes, heat shield,
    and their you have the old exhaust.
    to remove that are lower side clamps and top middle bypass pipe. this is a little tricky as nuts and bolts are bit inaccessible but i find easiest is a 13mm ring spanner on front helps.
    the side spring mounts you can just take off but i undo the side mounts on those as easier to put back on again.
    when all back make sure you reconnect the lights to number plate

    F355's were manufactured from mid-year 94 onward. There are actually a lot of differences in those early cars.

    Was 355 released in 94 only to Europe and then 95 for USA?

    There are 1994 F355's here in the USA. I don't know if they were marketed as '95 model year, but their VIN plates show 94 with USA-market digits.

    The car is indeed a very early 355 - first one into the UK as a matter of fact - and as Daniel rightly points out, was made may/june 1994.

    Yep, figured it was a Euro car. Take the extra time and drop the bumper; it will make the job easier. For the 348, this is not necessary, however.
