Looking to buy one of these...Gallardo is a 2006, 430 is 2005. Any thoughts are appreciated in advance.

I drove the 2013 Gallardo a few months back...fun car on the track & off....rawer shifting, quick, etc....but somehow doesn't compare to my 04 360...I know v10, paddle etc, & a sweet smoking ride but my car gets the hair standing up my neck...I just felt I wanted to trash the Lamborghini as hard as I could...but love caring for my Ferrari! Even though I do drive it pretty hard....;)

    I would take an F430 over any pre-2009 Gallardo including the '08 Superleggera. It's a big step up from a 2008 to a 2009 Gallardo LP560.

i would take a 360 over a gallardo (despite the fact they are monumentally slower) and a 430 would be an absolute no-brainer. The ferrari's just feel so much better than the lambos. I'm also not a fan of AWD. the inside of the Lambos is also pure audi; this is not a bad thing per say, but when i would drive my friend's gallardo it constantly reminded me of an old audi i had. ergonomically superior but it did detract a bit for me personally.

May people convert them to 2WD. I like the idea of paying good money and getting little things like heated seats, nose lift...

I know people that have R8s and Lambos and covet an F430 or 458 as their next car. If you care about how the car looks standing still, get a Lambo. If you care how it feels behind the wheel, get a Ferrari.

Obvi, if you can afford it, then I say get both. That's what I will do when I find the garage space!

What about down the road costs like maintenance are both similar or does one have more potential issues or higher repair costs when things go wrong?

I am still about two or more years away from my purchase as we are building our new home next year but these are two cars(and a 360) that I am considering as well. I have drove all three and the 430 is a nice jump from the 360 and is a nice refined car but the lambo is so sexy and raw.

The Lambo is not nearly as raw as the F430. I have an '07 F430 Spider and an '07 Gallardo Spider and the Ferrari is far more aggressive and frankly responsive than the Gallardo. There is an immediacy to punching the throttle in the Ferrari that the Lamborghini lacks, and while the Gallardo does sound great when the pipes open up, the a F430 sounds great all the time.

Also, if you are tall (6" or more) make sure the Gallardo really fits you. I am right at the edge in mine, whereas in the Ferrari it's no problem at all..

Don't get me wrong ... they are both amazing cars ... but I'd part with the Gallardo before the F430.

I owned both though the Gallardo was converted to RWD (the only way to own one of them and a very different car in RWD) My 430 was a gearshift the Gallardo was a paddle shift. I'd take a 430 (but only a gearshift car) if I had the choice again of the two.

Do you know the best way to make a Ferrari disappear??? Park it next to a Lamborghini.

    I have a 360 modena manual, a 430 spider F1, and a Gallardo e-gear.

My gallardo is a RWD conversion :D has several upgrades.

The Gallardo is the fastest. It always gather a huge crowd. Amazing build quality.

The Ferraris have the best steering feel, and the cars feel lighter.

Drive both, back to back, and make up your own mind. But for the Gallardo, I would really recommend a RWD unit.

    :D

Have driven both.....for the years you mention, its a dead heat for me.

Gallardo better looking outside, more rare (lumping the 360 and 430 together since they look so similar), less maintenance costs. 430 has better driving dynamics, better automatic transmission, more interior room and a better looking interior.

The 06 Gallardos are HUGELY improved comparing to the 04-05 models..... 20 more HP, Better Exhaust, Much better Gearing, etc..etc... :D

    There are 14000 Gallardos made. 36000'ish 360 / 430...............

Yes......although Lamborghinis tend to have smaller clutch assemblies than other manufacturers....so its also a safe assumption that a manual clutch on a Gallardo will need a change more often than a 430. Some of ths is also due to the AWD.

I completet understand why one would prefer to get more value for their dollar. I really like the gallardos. They are very good cars. If i did get one id do this conversion or try to find an lp550-2 with a real manual.

Indeed, a world apart between the 2 Lambos in many ways, reliability being one of the most important.
And yes, the pre-LP 560 model, "eats the clutch in a single sitting".

my 2005 egear on the latest clutch has over 24k miles on it and only 30% wear.

initial clutch is notarious and wears out between 7-12k miles. the clutch material has improved since.

2006 has better gear ratio. so i would not factor clutch wear into the decision.

this topic has been covered for nearly a decade now. i suggest you do a search on gallardo vs 430

    reliability is about the same
    steering is better on 430
interior is better on gallardo with double DIN nav, heated seats, rear cam, bt
exterior styling is better on gallardo unless you prefer a softer look
brakes is better on gallardo, 8 pot front. 430's ceramic would match gallardo though
    accleration is about the same
transmission is better on f430 largely due to rwd. awd on the gallardo boggs down the trans

I've owned both at the same time. I had an '07 F430 coupe and my Gallardo is an '06 Spider. I sold the F430 and got a 16M.

To your question... the F430 was a better all around car, but the Gallardo was just more fun to drive. Part of it was the convertible, part the exhaust (which I upgraded to the LOC system which is SICK).

The Gallardo (despite being black) attracted way more attention than my red F430.

On the track, the F430 was much better... but around town, I preferred the Lambo. Lambo fixed the e-gear issues of the earlier models in '06. The transmission is fine in my car.

Now, though, with the 16M in the garage... I have the Gallardo on a battery tender.

I have an 08 scud and an 07 G Spyder with the LOC exhaust as previously mentioned. Looks and sound go to Lambo hands down!! Handling and shifting go to the Scuderia. I've got the capristo valve switch on the scud but think I'll try the x pipe to improve the experience of the Ferrari. If I could only have one it would be the gallardo.

I have had both of these cars and both spiders. I started with a 2007 Lambo Spider and a 2006 F430 Spider. After a few months I sold the 2007 Lambo and purchased a 2011 Lambo Spider. The 2011 Lambo was light years ahead of the 2007, but it still seemed like it was missing something. I have since sold the 2011 Lambo and I still drive (and enjoy) the 2006 f430 Spider. Just my personal opinion.
