No you're not right. You refuse to absorb the fact the lap does not need to start at 100%. You are not going to use 100% of your batteries before the first turn. As soon as you lift the car is INCREASING battery. All the P1 (or any car) needs to do is regen enough during its lap to keeps the batteries from going to 0.

Like UPS backup with servers you need to,provide enough power for short burst. The big batteries is only for e-mode. That.s why laferrari has smaller battery pack they don't offer an e-mode

Who cares about efficiency? Every responsible person should. It's a non-issue? Hardly.

For an engine designer (for designers of all things in fact) efficiency is everything. It's called brake thermal efficiency and it's the ultimate goal - to convert as much of the fuel energy into mechanical output. Most gasoline engines don't even get to 30%.

What are the performance benefits? Better specific power, better power to weight, longer running distance between refueling stops (handy for endurance racing), less stress on the moving parts (longer engine life), cleaner emission, to name few.

KERS ruins the brake feel they say? Haven't heard any F1 driver complain about brake feel all these years they've been driving around with brake regen. That seems to be a non-issue.

A bunch of these recent posts could be rendered moot if McL would just publish a time.

It's incredible how the P1 looks change so much by lowering and raising the wing. In that configuration, I like it a lot. But when it's raised and the wing is down, it's not pretty. Also, the wheels need to be silver.

Best angle for sure of the P1

So who's answered the question in all this on whether or not these cars can run a 24hr race or not with this KeRS regenerating dilemma?

They can but at far slower speeds that their record laps would suggest. LaF would be the most consistent IMO.

... But we'll never know because McLaren won't share times and Ferrari won't even let a journalist near one. So far in this contest it's a clear win for Porsche with their open book policy.

...yes, but if you loose electric power at the corner exit it´s quite probable that you get a lower speed at the end of a relatively short straight.

Nice question and I'll put it some other way as all this recent chat has simply confused me more about electrics, laptimes, etc:

Is KERS in F1 conveniently calibrated for each track so that its extra boost depletion and regen cycle takes about one full lap? How does this then compare to the P1, 918, LaF?

Should have gone all the way and painted the doors blue. The carbon on the front is already painted blue. Parked in front of the 'Electrical Distributors'....

This year they had only 6.6s worth of KERS per lap. Next year they will have 33s per lap.

So much nonsense being written about these hybrids (918 and p1) .
Peloton I don't see eye to eye with you on your blind devotion to mclaren and the tone of many of your posts but I truly admire your patience , you should be sainted mate .

I just don't like it. If McLaren would introduce a race inspired 12C (or whatever it is called), something like a CS or Speciale, I would prefer that.
