That's funny, at that price it's going to be around for a while.

$1.2 million?? No way! Too much money for a (bad) restored F40 and in general an F40 (not LM/GTE version).

anyone else think the price they paid for the 38 aston martin they eventually sold to Tom Papadopoulous of Autosport Designs seem low? I have no idea what those cars are worth, but I remember thinking - wow they're ripping this guy off.

I was talking with a little birdy a while back and he told me who actually wrecked that F40 and I have no reason to doubt his word or knowledge, some birds get around lol. What I found saddening is that I had met this person and he is a great guy but it seems this incident crushed him personally and he never recovered and got out of the business after decades.

On another note did anyone else catch tonight's episode with the Trans Am and spot the black 599 GTO? I was wondering if it was a clients car or Richards personal car?

Saw the episode on TV recently. Is $1.2m really the asking price?
At least they kept the original seats :)

I think Richard would be awesome to go drink beers with for the night. Probably end up going on a 5 day bender.

IIRC he held the record for fastest USA East-West crossing in a 550 Maranello, average speed over 80mph...!

The B-J blurb says, " Great attention to detail by Stuart's to make the chassis better than factory tolerances.".

True, the stated goal at the beginning of the project was to match the factory tolerances, or at least that's what they said on-air.

But when they fitted up the engine, the mounts were WAY out of position by several of inches at least. I laughed my a$$ off.

Not to say it's not a fun car, but it ain't no F-40 anymore. It's just a hot rod based on a badly wrecked Ferrari.

I will still argue all day long it is a legit F40. F40 chassis, F40 engine, and they replaced many of the parts with OEM. yes it has a serious wreck history, yes they painted it and did several things to non-OEM. It is more original than 50% of the 1960's racing Ferraris and should be valued somewhere in middle between the Linder F40 and a 90 point F40.

They go through all this resto/rebuilt and still keep the ugly US plastic protuberance?

My concern as well. It will likely be impossible to tell if the car sells as in funds change hands between a real buyer and if so, how much. But I bet the ostensible number will be big and will set a new floor on perceived F40 values.

That is also why there is not a real "market" for F40s - you can't get enough reliable data to draw any real conclusions, what with only 211 US examples, every car being unique, sales being fairly infrequent, and no given transaction being representative of any other transaction.

What ever they are selling for now we will all be kicking ourselves that we didn't buy them. They are a bargain!
