I don't know what labour costs are in Fla, factouring in the high-end materials the sq/ft price seems to be aligned with the readily apparent "Quality" of materials & architectural features. Are the floors radiant heated?...Alex

You should check your "facts" next time you decide to post them.

The Apple I came out in April 1976. Commodore PET came out in October 1977. The Apple II came out in June 1977.

    Enjoy your Amiga.

As somebody who has been an Apple user since the 80's - and Timex-Sinclair, and Commodore, and Amiga, and TI - let me advise you and the rest of the Apple bashers here to refrain from opining on the subject. You are ignorant.

If you like your PC's, good for you. If you had to run some business and engineering software back in the day, well, that wasn't Apple's thing then. But as a creative artist, I can tell you for a fact that Apple's operating systems have always been the friendliest, best designed, and most integrated if you are actually using a computer to create (Music in my case). Their extensions were brilliant in how they allowed the computer to expand into external devices like MIDI interfaces, while with a PC setting those up (Pre Windows '98) was usually a frustrating experience, at best.

Jobs was a visionary genius, and he was not easy to get along with, but look at the wonderful things his legacy includes: Mac, iMac, iPod, iTunes, iTunes Store, iPhone, App Store, and iPad. Compare that with Bill Gates, who actually did borrow from Xerox - and Apple - without asking or making a deal.

Jobs will be remembered as a giant, Gates as a filcher.

    Cheers,

    George

    Not that it matters but

Apple did not invent the PC

Apple did not invent the Mp3 player

Apple did not invent the "smart phone"

Apple did not invent the touch screen

Apple did not invent the tablet computer

    Fine.

If you want to post this sort of messages then please identify the actual inventors and describe their inventions rather than simply post lazy cheap shots.

He's right Michael. It's not hard to look up though I disagree with the smart phone. IMHO calling the original iPhone a "new" or "improved" smart phone is like calling an M16 an improved flintlock.

I gave you the pc, here is the MP3 player.

MPMan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can look up the rest.

    You stated:

"Some would argue that Apple's success has not much to do with real product innovation and lot to do with convincing people that it's better and cooler."

    noun: innovation
    1.
the action or process of innovating.
synonyms: change, alteration, revolution, upheaval, transformation, metamorphosis, breakthrough; new measures, new methods, modernization, novelty, newness; creativity, originality, ingenuity, inspiration, inventiveness; informala shake up
"no appliance manufacturer can survive without an ongoing commitment to innovation"

Now, can we end this thread so that we can go back to arguing about cars and preferably Ferraris?

Apple I was not what one would count as a first widely available and sold personal computer. Also, it was rather limited in use. If we count Apple I, we might as well include MOS/Commodore KIM-1 which came out also in 76'.
Commodore PET was demonstrated and announced in january of 77' at CES in Chicago...

I do agree we should either go back to Ferrari or move these other discussions to another thread.

Well, those of us that knew Jobs will also remember him as the big ******* he was...

Don't get me wrong, smart guy but an ******* to work for.

No need to belittle Gates to elevate Jobs. Gates is a giant by himself and so is Jobs.

He's just lazy, trying to post as many messages as he can. He isn't sure. He's making assumptions because he's read somewhere that someone said so but he never checked and he's not a tech guy.

As for your opinion on iPhones or whatever, that's your opinion and that's fine.

No wonder you don't like modern Ferraris. You are utterly lacking in vision. It's one thing to invent something and get the intellectual property rights. It's quite another to extrapolate that idea into a movement. Every MP3 player before the iPod is nothing but a historical footnote. Same with every cell phone before the iPhone. And for 99% of the public, the only touch screens before Apple's versions were on the Star Ship Enterprise.

I wish you'd find something that makes you happy, because as far as I can tell you are an utterly miserable person.

    Cheers,

    George

Interesting post, though I disagree about your comments regarding gates. While I prefer jobs and what he brought to the table, I beleive gates to be a genuis as well and find it unbelievable what he built.

I've been a PC user for about 17-18+ years and hated them the whole time, in particular windows, which I just don't find intelligent in anyway and I'm disliking windows 8 like no other version prior.

Admittedly, I was very hesitant to make the jump, as I run my entire business through my PC and some of the programs just didn't cross over too well.

After now about 2-3 years of ipads, now iphone's and feeling more comfortable to make the switch. I'm running both my PC now and a mac, as I try and gradually fully make the switch and be done with the stupidity of windows/pc's.

Obviously, the choice is an idividual thing and I understand the appeal of both formats, but personally I can't wait for the day, I never have to use windows/pc again.

lol, someone needs to create another thread and alow this one to get back on topic.

I know he's a prolific poster who has given so much to these boards. More than most of us will do in a lifetime.

    He's not perfect.

And he has changed. He has become jaded. And it is sad.

I wish him the best and hope to see him happy in the future. We will all be the richer.

Read his last 1 or two hundred posts. I'm guessing.

I do like him. We don't always agree.
