I don't think bias has anything to do with it...it looks sensational...you guys have made the right choices...absolutely no doubt about it.

    Congrats.

I think Rosso Dino was Ferrari's answer to the Lambo colours of the day...

Mr. Newman: chapeau. I am in awe sir. Thank you (and spitfire!) for sharing this wonderful journey with us. This thread and your similar 308 saga have provided much enjoyment.
If I ever win the lottery you will have a pm right after they hand over the check.

It's very exciting, she looks amazing. I can't wait to see her in the flesh. Have we ordered my Mr. T control arms yet?!!!!

Goodness me, what a transformation from the well-storied and well-driven red car we first looked at 2 years ago.

I see that the firewall (frame tubes 'n all) is pretty much blitzed with silver, whereas other boxers (e.g., the black one owner one that you're working on) are different (i.e., frame tubes are black). What's the story?

Answering my own question here -- digging through photos from early on in the resto I see that it was originally silver (including the frame elements). Ignore the grey stuff that was sprayed over everything at a later date.

The orange is cool like it. A dry ice blasting would be perfect for the motor area to clean that all up.

It definitely needed (and received) a bit more than a dry ice blasting! Glad you like the orange -- I've yet to see it in its finished state.

Rear louvers in with screens. Rivets are black. Seeing body colored rivets on a boxer is an indication it was re-painted.

Dynamat going in then followed by dynaliner for heat reduction on the rear fire wall and front fire wall and tunnel. Im going to line the inside of the door skins with some dynamat as well which is something Ive seen on new production Fords both cars and trucks. It reduces road noise and makes the car just feel more solid. You can feel the difference just leaning inside this car with all the dynamat in place. It really makes a big difference.

I installed both dynamat and dynaliner in my 430 Scuderia; but only on the inner wheel arches and cabin floor, not on the firewall, doors, dash or anywhere else. Additionally I only used the heavy duty black dynamat and dynaliner on the wheel arches and only the lightweight blue dynamat on the floors. The only reason I did this was because I found the sound of every stone being fired into the bare aluminium and every bang and crash of the suspension irritating and unnecessary. When I use the car it is often on 700km plus drives and it made for a very tiring day. The transformation post installation was dramatic to say the least, almost too much silence. Virtually no road noise whatsoever; but still every bit of engine noise as I didn't touch the firewall.

The point of mentioning all that is after looking at the pictures, I think that is going to be one very quiet interior indeed :)

    Quality restoration work BTW.

+1 to 360C's comments. I also noticed the sound deadening acted as a "bandpass" or a "bandblock" filter, as post-installation I could hear more & different mechanical noises that must have been masked previously by the road noise. The engine noise came through better, as did the exhaust, and I could even hear a bit of whine from the drivetrain.

All in all, the car felt and sounded more solid - doors closed with a good "thunk" instead of sounding like a screen door being slammed, and the noise of rain on the roof was gone.

All good things except the additional weight. I haven't had the car on the scales since then, but I'd estimate we added around 100 pounds of sound deadening.

I weighed the dynamat before I started the install. From memory the heavy duty black grade weighs 1kg per sheet and the blue light weight grade is about 30% lighter. I used 2 sheets of black and 3 sheets of blue grade dynamat. The dynaliner weight is negligible.

There would be three times as much (all heavy duty black) in the Boxer install, if not more?

Paul, do you run into any clearance issues putting in Dynamat and dyna liner in? I am thinking the added thickness might present with issues?
