Any Singapore Ferrari owners?

I envy you have the option to own TR in UK ! Unfortunately I think the only option that I have is singapore 😞..

Thanks for sharing your view , I agree and personally I find that 348 trying to be like a TR but its lack of the charisma of a TR.

So what I have to do now is really go down to detail and check the history of the TR and hopefully the current owner takes good care of it.

not really ... a buddy of mine just picked up a 360cs and a 16m ... has them in a ferrari dealer lockup just outside london ...

plans to use as and when he goes there ... storage costs are not expensive at all ...

but u r right ... not the same as having it here to drive regularly ...

I had a 348TB & Testarossa in Singapore but both sold long ago. The one good car you should look at is this Used Ferrari Testarossa Car for Sale in Singapore, AutoInc Sports - sgCarMart

Car's very well maintained by a meticulous owner & shocks are rebuilt plus a longer COE than others. I had both steering racks rebuilt or replaced which made a difference to safety & handling as these are old cars but there's a host of other issues to take care of on cars from 1990s. There are a few others, some are pimped ugly, some are modified with bodykits, some are rust bucket so you really only have a couple of choices left.

Before you even think about them, just make sure of two issues:

#1 That your finance company is willing to take COE cars. Banks won't do it. So you'd need to fork out full cash or at least a good portion of it.

#2 Insurance is good to cover. Long ago there was one young chap whom the father bought him a Testa & the insurance alone costed him S$18K/yr! If you're over 30 with good records then they'll be kinder to you.

#2a If you're paying cash for the car then just buy a 3rd party insurance & forget about comprehensive which will save you thousands. But if there's finance then you'd need 3rd party+fire & theft benefit to that company.

There was one which was owned by an RSAF Colonel & his wife drove it frequently!

Well, I find it annoying to drive a Ferrari or any performance car in Singapore now which I'm sure many of you agree. We have cameras everywhere to report you from speedtraps to stompers not to mention the rather flat terrain & heavy traffic.

 

trust me, it's MUCH worse in the uk ...

 

I saw that you have owned 1990 TR before, can you share your experience ?

1) I heard very heavy steering ? Have you tried driving a 308 carb version ? Which is heavier ?

2) Heavy clutch ? But I heard it's must lighter than 308 carb car clutch. Which is good !!

3) need to remove engine for a belt change ?

4) what else should I look out for ?

I'll have to write from memory. The TR steering or basically any non-power steering cars are heavy at parking so I'd roll it to steer which is quite easy otherwise once they pick up speed, they're like any other modern cars but with a better feel. I even fitted 19" alloys on the TR which was fine but went for the 512M rims later.

I prefer the 348 steering much better than 355 which is too light IMHO. I also have a 328 now which is rather easy to drive but the heaviest has to be my '74 Boxer which is extremely heavy in clutch & steering. You do build up a calf muscle after a day in traffic!

The engine has to be dropped on the TR to a jig or table to work on & once it's out, everything's easy to reach. There's also a large water pipe that runs through the car's central tunnel which tends to corrode after years so do change that which is a b*tch job to do. You can order the service belt kit from the sponsors here & restore the crinkled red valve covers locally while the plug cables are expensive. Otherwise, she's quite reliable but there are several electrical processes around the rear which worries me a little. Few other usual things are the water+fuel pumps & the TR will do well with a BBK upgrade.

One of our brudders here has owned over 4 TRs.

Anyway, don't ask around too much but go for a test drive & tell us

 

Thats a sure way to spend money. Thats how I ended buying my Esprit. Loved the unassisted steering, the sound of the turbo spooling, and I was sold.

In actual fact, that's how i ended buying the cars i had. Test driving is bad.

Thats why i dont test drive anymore!!!!!!! Hurts the pocket!

 

What a rarity. Can't imagine many left here. Hopefully their owners rescues them with a renewed COE.

Oh that is fantastic. Hope they're around long enough for an opportunity for me to own one.

 

You won't like the road tax though cos it'll be close to $10k/yr maxed plus a high insurance premium. The running cost is as high as a V12 exotic but on a saloon that's why I exported mine.

 

I had thought about that. Perhaps I could wait to bring one in as a Classic, or own it overseas. Car ownership here has really gone to the dogs.
