Sorry to hear that Jon.. Illegal valets is quite common in Ipoh. Usually i tell them pay when come back to collect the car.. but after makan etc, just drive off without paying.. so far this method works..

I've just done a nice tour of Western Johor taking most of the B roads with the family & visited a lot of the countrysides, beaches, temples, hot spring (Yes in Sungei Gersing, Muar) & of course lots of food ^^

    Hi BK,
I guess everyone using whataspp that's why so silent here :(

    Hi Jon,
    How's your 328?
I just received JPJ Classic status for my Mondial for 80% roadtax reduction :)
Noticed oil pressure is running lower.. Shd be oil pressure sender or wiring/grounding issue. Planning to install a mechanical pressure gauge next to the sender.. & one more gauge to monitor fuel pressure for hot start issue troubleshooting :)

Haha, yeah we have a SGP whatsapp Fchat group so most of us are there.

328 has been garaged away for months as I've been busy & just picked up a modern cabriolet here for daily runabout. Which year is your Mondial & 25yrs for classic? Can you please share the procedure to do this? Thanks.

Not too bad bro, I'll post some pics here when possible. My hometown is near to Muar which is famous for it's Assam fish & otak. The fishes there are very fresh & tender as they are not farmed but from the sea. There's several restaurants specialising in these dishes along the jetty including Malay stalls but their seafood are pre-cooked so best to try the Chinese stalls. Opens from 9am-8pm while a couple serve till 11pm.

Recently, my cousin found a stretch of private beach untouched for the first time facing the Straits of Malacca & people fish there or pick shellfish. You'll see migratory birds & plenty of Kingfishers along the coast. It's accessible by cars now.

Otherwise, we were doing some tour of plantations & the B roads stuff. There's also a hot spring here which is developed & pretty packed on weekends so it's good to bring the family here. I'm planning to do a 1-day proper drive along the route again.

If anyone wants, I'll be hitting Genting tomorrow for a spin & makan.

    Hi Jon,

Mine is '87 with TRX tires. Took me 10 weeks to get the classic certificate.

    The process:
    1. Send the car to local jpj technical unit for application & inspection
    2. Wait, depends on luck, i think
    3. JPJ HQ will send u a certicate once it's approved
    4. Then you can bring the cert & log card to JPJ to renew roadtax with 80% discount

You may refer to this link for more details: www.jpj.gov.my/en/panduan-status-motokar-vintaj/klasik

The application process is quite fun. Now both my 944 & Mondial are jpj certified classic :)

Hi CK, thanks for the detailed write up & sounds rather easy. Can you renew the road tax from any POS offices other than JPJ offices? My 328 is 89 so couple more years to go!

Nice to save good money isn't it ^^

Hi Jon, I'm not sure if POS office can renew the 2nd & 3rd year rtax but 1st year sure have to get from JPJ. Forget to mention have to resubmit application every 3 years. Your '89 328 will be 25yo few days later :)

    Bro, classic 911?

Nah, for a Mondial to be classified as classic, the savings can be anything between RM1.7k-RM3k, depending on which Mondial it is.

The 944 would be less, between RM700-RM1.7k.

    That's quite some moolah.

It's getting pretty quiet here. Anyone knows of a 550 for sale in M'sia? What's the market value for a let say nice car with good service records and all the bells and whistles that come with it.

    Thanks

Hi mike. Jtcars.net has a very nice car in great condition but it's in blue. They're quoting less than rm 350K if I'm not mistaken. Check it out on their web page

Thanks doc, that's fast response. Blue is fine with me. Someone in this forum owned the car before if I am not mistaken. Looks very nice to me, hopefully everything else is just as nice. Drjeeva you have a 550 too from what I read in the old threads?

    Regards

    Mike

Yes. I have a 550 for the past 6 years and still have it. It's such a beautiful car...front engined V 12 with loads of torque. And that traditional ferrari gear change with that classic klick klack as you go thru the gears.

Spoke to the owner couple of months ago & it was well above 350K as the car went to agent for a gearbox rebuild along with new clutch assembly costing over 20K. He's selling but not in an urgent way. Rare LeMans blue with blue cabin though.

Drjeeva, it's always nice to hear the klick klack gear change. Any major issues such as window gap, overheating and the usual of the 456?

Don, are you also looking to procure another V12? Kok told me there are many lookers for the 550.

    Regards

No major problems but engine runs hot...very hot esp in town driving. On the highway it is quite cool less than 90C. Known problem related to overheating is the water hose just beneath the plenum cover. Has a tendency to leak. Change the engine mounts to those of the 575. Nothing else. It's a fairly bulletproof car..at least mine is ;-
