I think Ferrari or Mercedes should give him a lifetime cockpit in an F1 car or make him test driver at least to prevent him from killing himself on ski or motorbikes...Looks like he had his worst accidents outside F1 in the past...I hope he recovers fast...

Thank goodness he was wearing a helmet. Latest reports suggesting injuries not serious. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

I'm flying to Aspen in about an hour and my wife is already spooked by this, especially after the phone call from our instructor's wife (we ski with him in Aspen for the last 15 years) that he was airlifted to Denver with serious head trauma after a ski accident couple days ago.

The latest from RMC Sport comes from Christophe Gernignon-Lecomte.

He's the director of Meribel and has just told them that the injury is "not very serious," which sounds like good news.

"He crashed at 11:07, off-piste, in Meribel.

"He was wearing a helmet and crashed into a rock.

"The emergency services reacted quickly, at 11:15... He was heli-lifted to Moûtier hospital."

"He was shocked, a little worried, but conscious.

"It could possibly be a cranial injury but it is not very serious."

Good news, and an eight-minute reaction time is very important.

You need to read the post again. I think he meant that his ski instructor in Aspen, where he and his wife skis, had a head injury which was spooking his wife.

Head injury and the necessity for a heli airlift to the hospital sounds bad, I hope the latest reports about it not being too serious are correct. I wish him a quick recovery!

I seriously hope he's okay but even a seemingly minor nead injuries can be fatal! (From: BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Natasha Richardson dies aged 45 19 March 2009 ) :

"British actress Natasha Richardson has died from head injuries sustained in a skiing accident in Canada.

Richardson, 45, the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave, fell on a beginners' slope at the Mont Tremblant resort in Quebec on Monday...........

........Richardson initially showed no sign of injury but about an hour later she was taken to a nearby hospital after feeling unwell. It was later confirmed her injuries were critical.

Exactly my thoughts. The fact that he got airlifted and then transferred to a different hospital worries me. Could be that the other hospital has better equipment/headspecialist on site. I'm confident he'll get the best of treatments though.

He was skiing with his 14 year old son...

Not trying to be a 'Debbie Downer' but you are correct. A close friend's girlfriend fell and hit her head but she did not want to go to the hospital (even though she was fully insured) and she died less than 48hr's after the accident.

Wishing a speedy recovery for Michael.

I'm sure he's in the best hands possible and I've got My fingers crossed that he's going to be okay.

There is a part of Me though wishing that Sid Watkins was still with us to oversee his treatment!

Wow that sucks. Accidents can happen on the hill, especially at high speeds. Be careful out there.

    Get well soon Michael.

Exactly what I thought when reading the reports..... As you said, I'm sure he's in the very best possible hands and at least he had a helmet on. I guess there's not much snow in Europe either right now - Virtually none in Tahoe as yet. :(

    Cheers,
    Ian

Injuries are serious but no life threatening according to several insiders.

Very, very happy he was wearing a helmet, otherwise we'd be writing something else now...
