The black one with the normal wheels is my friend's car, he got the first one in the country. The one with the golden wheels is Kroymans' demo.

Being a previous Italia owner, my friend was blown away by the difference in driving and handling between the Italia and the Speciale. It was very worth the (small) price increase, he said.

Does anyone know if Nero Stellato is metallic ? Still working on stripe configuration and waiting to hear back the cost of custom designs and colors.

    Thanks

Yes, I believe that it is. There's a thread here somewhere, within the 458 section, with pictures of that color. Has more gold colored metallic in the black.

I hope that what I studied could be confirmed as a good new for the future Speciale's owners. The new Speciale brake discs go now under the name of CCM3.They are made by Brembo as the regular CCM of the standard 458.This is quite a new technology and Brembo calls this system CCMR.Studying the carachteristics of boths CCM3 and CCMR(weight reduction, performances, % of silicium, hybrid material used for brake pads, much better performances, dissipation of high temperatures and so on) I arrived at the conclusion that the names are of course a little different (Brembo sells them to privats or competitors with his own code) but the product is the same.So which is the good new for us, future Speciale's owners? simple: the life of these brake disks is from 4 to 5 times longer compared to the standard brake disk (CCM).And we all remember the long discussions we had here, about the costs necessary to substitude carbon brake disks...

They are vortex generators. Aircraft use them to increase stability, but here they are certainly to manage airflow over the rear wheel arches. The effect will be much like having skirts without having skirts, lowering the CD.

    Cheers,

Mike, looks like we have the new car urge at the same time again. I ordered last week or so. I recall you were helpful to me in 2010 when I needed to see what the rear camera looked like. Hope all is well with you. :)

Hey Jaz, why this change? Your config with the black interior was so spectacular. A red interior is to cuddle. Do you want to cuddle in the Speciale? ;)

If my aging memory is close, an Fchat member "ONNO" in Europe has a 2 tone 458 Italia. It is nero stellato with Rossa Maranello roof. He got it about 1 1/2 years ago. Many posts of his car/time with atellier documented. He liked the N. stellato as it was still very "black" despite what was likely a gold rather than silver metal flake as previously mentioned. If you have ever seen Nero daytona metallic you will know about how adding metallic lessens the "blackness" of a black car. Stellato apparently keeps that depth of color. Tri-color paint likely why it shows up as so rich/deep. So plan on $26-28K US if you opt for it.
Hope what I have told you is correct.

Sorry, but I'm quite sure they are the opposite of vortex generators... You can see vortex generators on the upper side of Boeing 737 aircraft wings and they are somewhat twisted to produce turbulent airflow from laminar airflow. They need the turbulent airflow to be able to lower the flaps for landing as far as they do without getting airflow-delamination resulting in a stall... The disadvantage is that turbulent airflow produces more drag.
The Speciale does not have skirts as the Italia and therefore you will get air leaking from under the car outwards due to pressure differences. To prevent this the airflow along the side is accelerated by the fins. Due to the small gap between body and fin the airflow will be accelerated so as the pressure difference is reduced. Furthermore I guess the flow will also be laminated so it will be easier to direct it around the rear wheels and the accelerated air will also help in extracting heat form the rear wheelhouse. Plus the drag is reduced.

Randyslovis, thanks for your comments. Body will be Silverstone, the nero stellato will be one of the stripe components. I am trying to customize the NART single stripe scheme but will draw a line in the sand at some price point.

Mhh, great to hear from you. All is good here, hope the same with you. Traded my '10 458 for a Mac Spider. Love the Mac but concluded I need a Ferrari in the garage again, all emotion, being practical is not in my makeup. Hoping for a third quarter Speciale delivery and one more driving season in the Mac.

Don't you think that car has way too much grey/silver? Look's like something Darth Vader would spec.

Thanks for the compliment and yours is looking fantastic as well.I have never had
glare problems while wearing polarized glasses.Which IMO should be worn always
since glare can come from many sources especially from windshields of cars in Traffic
Here's pics my previous 360 & 612 both had Crema dash and no issues
