I've been lucky enough to see 4 BMW M1s (including a Procar), one of my all time favorite cars. They were all on static display though, and I am aching to see some in motion. I read somewhere that someone rode in one at Mid-Ohio Raceway. Are there any that are seen regularly on the roads or at vintage car races? Thank you very much for your time!

Oooh when is that? I do want to visit Germany and Italy at some point, and it would be great to plan my trip around that.

June 19-22 in 2014. The classic cars will (most likely) run on June 19 and 20. The 24h race will be June 21-22. The race has traditionally been in May, but it was moved to June for the 2014 edition. It is a great event, but takes some advance planning due the lack of lodging options near the track.

Don't know what else is on your list, but the classic race has everything from Porsche to Volvo to Jaguar to BMW to Triumph to Alfa to... The 24h race has more modern equipment, but usually about 175 entrants. Specifics vary from year to year, but you can see Porsche 911 and Cayman, BMW Z4 and 3 series, Audi R8 and TT-RS, Mercedes SLS, McLaren 12c, Aston Martin, VW Sirrocco, Toyota GT86, Corvette, Lexus LFA, Nissan GTR, Viper, etc.

There are often other goodies on display or parked at the track. Last year was a gathering in honor of Aston Martin's 100th year which had all types of Astons - One-77, Zagato, DB-5, DBR1, and a few bond cars.

For some reason, I can no longer post pics to fchat from my iPhone. Anyone know why? My manage attachment screen opens but the message screen then blanks out and wipes the attachment. But if you want to see pics there are some posted in my garage thread in the Owners Section with the other cars I own.

I would but I'm on the road for a few weeks and don't have a laptop with me. Let me try something else, though.

Man, that's going to be tough to plan this year, it may have to be next year. I need to see it at some point!

Someone I just subscribed to just uploaded this video. It's very short, and it is a FANTASTIC capture of sound from an M1 Procar.

I bought it from Autosport Designs in New York. I went back and forth with BMW Classic about certain aspects of this car and its provenance for a while and then I pulled the trigger on it. They confirmed some special things about it and I really appreciated those aspects about it. Every BMW guy who checks out the car these days seems to be blown away by it. I had to fix a couple of small wear and tear items and dial it in so that it really is top notch but BMW Classic really helped me with that, as did Mike Ura, who is nothing short of amazing.

I'm wondering, did you get that car from Gullwing Motorcars in Astoria, NY? I remember they had a blue one there.

Did your car have a little sign on the passenger side dash?

I sure do. People seem to love it. I am not sure when it was put on but people who have known the car since it came to the US recall its always having been on there so I have left it alone.

One of the things that's been interesting is that some of the pieces on the car (like the all leather interior) that some had speculated were added after the fact have been confirmed by Classic as being original to this car. Because the first owner was BMW Motorsports and this was their car for three years, there are a lot of cool things that this car has that were not standard on other M1s. It's very, very cool.

We have very similar tastes in cars although I'm still looking for a Stratos. I was the underbidder on one in Monterey this year and I just couldn't justify going as high as it would have taken to bring the car home. Incidentally, I looked at the M1 that you ultimately bought, as well.

You might not like to know that I'm working on a hidden XJ220... :)

On a serious note, the collection is quite large already for someone like me so even though I have some cars on the hit list, it's getting harder and harder to figure out where to put them and what to do with them.
