Local ferrari dealer had a 599 for sale @ £109k, reduced from £115k in Grigio with HGTE pack and 8k miles, but probably went for a bit less than asking price.

It took a long time to sell and I was considering it as it was a lot of motor for £100k and the previous keeper took most of the deprn. Was it a good buy, what a 599's like?

Ultimately having driven a 458 recently I think that's the car for me......but there is a psychological barrier for me to overcome in spending north of 150k on another car, especially as my c63 coupe is under a year old.

    Gary,

I too have a C63 and I find it to be the perfect work horse for daily driving.

Having stated this the 599 is just such an amazing car and truly the very best value car on the market!

    Go for it!

That's my view too, could get a 599 for 100 k and only lose 30-40k over 3 years.

I do love the 458 though, what do you think a 1 year at 170k will lose in 2 to 3 years.

I think the short answer is the 458 will depreciate by a greater percentage than the 599, but you probably know this.

The depreciation should not be part of the decision making process, this is just my opinion. You should go for the car that you like more. If you can afford both, the more power to you! :)

    It's hard to say.

There are over 122, 458's for sale just on Piston heads at the moment.
Low mileage 2 year old ones have lost around 100k or more.
There are just too many for sale, for them to hold up well.

I think you would be better buying a 599 and keeping it for a couple of years, and then if you still want a 458 take a look at them then, when their big deprecation curve has leveled off a bit, but I bet you would want an F12 by then, as I am sure you will get the V12 bug once you have owned a 599, they are such great cars. Make sure you get a Ferrari warrantee with one though as they are quite complicated if they go wrong.

Depreciation is important to most of us, no one wants to through their hard earned money away!

Very wise advice in my opinion. The % drop that the 599 will have versus the 458 is much smaller, added to which a 599 HGTE is quite a special car and the power delivery of the V12 is epic.

Hey I'm also looking to buy a GTB599 (preference at the moment is HGTE) and only started looking. There is a £110, 7k mile HGTE one for sale but Singapore import homologated to UK spec (lights essentially). Looks a damn site better value than the other ones for sale and viewed yesterday.

Im also a bit allergic to throwing money down the pan but thought these cars had gone up in price since I had browsed a couple of years ago.

Grateful for any assistance / advice? Also understand that the warranty option from ferrari is only unto 9 years old so assume warranties are independent?

Welcome - no idea about the money side (check similar at Pistonheads) or upside of HGTE but mileage seems quite low - be wary unless there is a good service history - official warranty now is up to 15 years as I recall - you could talk to AV or Autoficcina about them
