I've searched and searched and can't seem to find much information on a good method for repainting the side window louvers... I have a '80 GTSi with the silver striped louvers, does anyone have a good tried and true method for repainting the entire louver black and the edges silver??? I thought to maybe paint the silver first and then mask off the fresh silver edges and paint the black over the masked silver, but that means alot of very detailed masking. Any ideas or methods used would be appreciated! Thanks!
I have heard but never tried that a silver sharpie is perfect for the striping. There is a thread on refinishing somewhere as part of a project done here. I think SEM trim paint from a rattle can then the Sharpie. Found it search Gas Door Silver Stripe or Silver Sharpie and scroll to gas door Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That is what we did. Happy masking! Get appropriate size masking tape for the task and it will go fast. Best Regards, John M Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought it was chrome instead of gray. ?! My GTS 79 comes with all black, is that original color ? I like the grey look...
The photo color is deceiving. More like a bright silver on the edge and satin black on the rest of the louver. That was the color on mine but I am not the original owner and she had seen previous paint work. But I do believe the color is correct.
Thanks Jim! That is correct about the tape. And there is fine edge masking tape too. Any good body shop should have all the necessary masking tape to do this louver repaint.
