its more economical to scrap old parts and claim it as a tax write off

a place where i used to work ( The K' place Hans ) does the same thing with old inventory and writes off 10 - 20 million worth of spare parts EVERY YEAR , the biggest one i oversaw was 36 million AUD from all the dealerships around the country in 2009.

Its just economics , bean counters study for years at university so they can engage in environmental criminality like that.

dont let it eat you up inside Hans , just laugh in its face like a man and cry when nobody is looking

no doubt long since 'acquired' by a trade school head teacher for a bit of home based research but it would be nice if you could satisfy my curiosity ?

No rust but a tired motor and carpets, other than that and a bit more cosmetic sorting out and it was a great car.

It cost me a fortune in the end as I HAD to buy 2 more Ferraris to replace it :)

Yes, it's an old warrior and a great track car. Here is #11760 in 2003 a few days before Targa Tasmania that year. First GT/4 to do a sub 2:00 minute at the Island, D'arcy did a 1:58 in it from memory in about 1993??

I think Peter missed this but that was his car, hit by a Golf driver on the phone whilst parked outside his parents place, 4 years ago approx. It was an exceptionally nice car, mainly because the original owner had filled every seam with waxoil upon delivery. I recall when the screen came out it was like new. I am sure Peter can fill in the rest.

Car was Auctioned by the insurance company and sold for something like $19K to someone in Portland I think.

These cars are easy to maintain, just a bit time consuming, and they tend not to break stuff if looked after. With the exception of some trim items and original sodium filled exhaust valves.

    thankyou C888

does anyone know if shannons auction their own "damaged vehicles" or do they go to the traditional pickles / Fowles group etc ?

I know NRMA does their own but what about the rest ?

and speaking of insurance , does everyone here find Shannons to be best or have any other insurers come to the table in the last few years that i missed ?

i copied and pasted this from another thread where it was a bit off topic

in reply to debate on the black GT4 on ebay

to buy that car then finish the motor rebuild , cut out the rust , straighten up the bent body so the windscreen will fit , respray it , redo the interior , rebuild the suspension bushes and steering , replace other missing parts could cost $ 22 -26,000 in my estimation for parts and other trades , PLUS 300 hours of my time at $ 120 per hour = $36,000

if you could get it for $17,000 ( + 24,000 parts and other trades ) , add $ 36,000 worth of my time

    total comes to $ 77,000 for a car that could be worth $ 45 - 55,000 now

i would prefer to buy "a good one" for 50 - 60K and spend 300 hours enjoying the drive in it instead .

and it would always have the shadow of its history hanging over its poor little head

sure there are other vehicles being sold that have had accident damage too , but probably repaired right from scratch

maybe someone younger who has less cash and more spare time could take on that one , if his time is worth jack then it may be be relatively more profitable

its been a good educational exercise to research about the model , and what an eye opener reading through the posts by Simms . that and reading down the list of the sellers feedback is a text book example of " ebay horror story "
