The pics were taken in Connecticut USA in the winter of 1985/6.

As I have said, constructive criticism is ok, and it gives me a chance to explain what I had in mind, and a chance for general discussion too. Its all good.

If every book ever written was the definite source for its subject, our libraries would be very small! For example I have several books about the 250 GTO, yet I don't think buying more than one book was a mistake. They all complement eachother and there will also be overlaps.

It's no different with Joe's book. I haven't read Lewandowski's book and probably never will because of its hefty price. Joe's book caters for a large audience that can't or won't afford the Lewandowski book. For its price, it's a great bargain.

Personally I like the very crisp pictures, especially the ones that were taken close to home (the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany). I also like the chassis number section.

I'm a little disappointed that the chapter on the Evoluzione is so brief and could have used some more pictures of the whole car. But maybe that's because I'm such a big fan of this Tipo. I also don't believe that the Evoluzione was ever intended to go rallying, as the book seems to imply. Instead, Group B was also applicable for the race track and there it would have competed with the Porsche 961, a Group B version of the 959.

I miss a picture of the father of the 288, the 308 (I'm biased :)). But there is a picture of the 250 GTO (albeit burried in the ancillaries chapter) and one of the Lancia LC2 Group C racer.

All in all for this kind of money you can't buy a better 288 GTO book.

    Best, Peter

I find it interesting that people with less that 20 posts here seem to have the least manners and seem incapable of voicing an opinion in a respectful way.

Now to the book for me it met all my expectations, there is a lot of interesting data/pictures to be found. Perhaps though the real test was when I took it with me to an informal Saturday breakfast at an exotic car dealer down here, the crowd being a mix of Ferrari owners and general enthusiasts. All thought the book to be very well done, the blend of pictures and information striking a nice balance.

In life we all have different opinions but its how one voices them that tells us much about the person voicing them.

  8. Yes, however as long as the opinions are constructive and not personal attacks it is just conversation. We are after all a car enthusiast site.

    Joe,

Is it possible to buy a signed copy directly through you or would I have to buy from a book seller?

    Many thanks

    Matt,

I'd be happy to sign a book for you (as I have already done for some), but I have zero to do with distribution, so when you get the book from Veloce or Amazon, PM me and I'll tell you where to send it!

I'll go further by saying it's the best FERRARI book for under $100.

The Book of the Ferrari 288 GTO: Joe Sackey: 9781845842734: Amazon.com: Books

I'd say that this one targets the market nicely. :)

Not a review per se, but a PM mentioning the book (among other things) from an Eu-based FChatter who owns a 288 GTO:

"Hi Joe, long time since we heard from each other... Thanks for your great book about the GTO... old gems are the future stars as well, just as the book shows. Thanks again for the book and take care! M"

Today the book arrived in Austria.
No time to dig deeper into it now but i like what i see at first glance.
High quality, good pics, s/n list with short history ... what´s not to like?
My favourite is the pic of the 5 GTOs in snow!

In contrast to the previous book, we just wanted to do something fun & resourceful, that does this great car justice, visually.

I posted a link to the FIA papers 1.5 year ago in the GTO thread and there wasn't much interest, only viewed about 15x. To me it seemed a bit pointless to use many pages of the book for easily online available documents, like the owners manual too.
I would have bought the book anyway though!
