Engines in P4 and P3 cars were changed over, and over. and over. Just look at the pictures from Le Mans where an engine change was done by attaching the engine to a large board and a group of strong men lifting it up. No records that I know of show what engine went into 0858 when converted to a CanAm. Little is known of what modifications were done while the car was in New Zealand and Australia. So it is safe to say "the engine in this car is supposed to be the same base engine as in a P4....." This is as good as it is going to get so let's live with it. There will never be a perfect restoration of an original P4 just like there is no perfect restoration or an original 250TR,250GTO,250LM or many other examples. tongascrew

intrepidcva11, you are ignoring the fact that Sergio Scaglietti would have been making period repairs to active race cars while this car is being restored to look like it was when it left the factory as a P4. Therefore the requirements are completely different and this replica body is plain wrong in so many details. And with a restoration those measurements do matter

And from the alloy body making point of view it takes just as long and just as much effort to make it wrong as it does right. The body buck they surely had to make was simply made wrong and they cannot have used #0900 as the mold, what a pity as if it no longer could be a CanAm it should have been a good copy of a P4 ... In my humble opinion. Still they sold the car and I'm sure the new owner loves it ...

They are both dead and in life not interested in old competition cars.

    ^^ THIS ^^

I have to say, I can't understand why people have such an issue with this. This car was already rebodied several times. As long as it was done based on a real car (as it was) and to exacting standards, why does it matter if (one of the best) specialists does it or Ferrari Classiche and it was returned to spider form? The car is of such a provenance that just to get one is a rare chance, so that buyer isn't going to be concerned that Ferrari hasnt done it, nor is the next buyer, it isn't a mass produced car. I can undertstand the fact that the last CanAm is now gone and that was something of historical significance, but it was a P4 spider before it was a CanAm so presumably this is more of a restoration to something that was than any sort of "frankenstein" car as has been suggested.

From what I know of him, I really quite admire John Collins for the fact he's incredibly successful with classic Ferrari and being from a normal background, shook up what was an elitest old boy market purely by being smart and by being a great deal maker.

The car has indeed been sold, and yet again it appears John Collins is tossing a rock at FChat's, like he did in his annual summary video.

"The fabulous #Ferrari P4 has been sold. Thanks to all the real P4 enthusiasts who supported #Talacrest on the project and thanks also to the detractors who would like to own a real P4 - but cannot - Happy new year! I am sure the new owner will hang the old Can-Am bodywork on his wall - just as jc would have done if he had kept the car. To celebrate we have been busy buying some special Ferraris - including an extraordinary 1950's road/racer we have been chasing for the last 12 months - more details soon!"

There is only one real P4 in existence, owned by Mr Stroll. Anything else is wishful thinking and marketing.

JC is John Collins, proprietor of Talacrest.
He does not personally maintain the Talacrest facebook page hence why he is referred to as the third person.

Does that mean the new owner is also a detractor, because he is also someone who does not own a real P4?

OK. The discussion has and will continue.

I would like to know the selling price.

    Why ?

    I want to know because:

    1) If the price was "low," that means the car
was not "worth" the price of a "genuine" P4.

    2) If the price was "high" than the "market" didn't care
    if it was a P4, made into a 350 CamAm, made into a P4.

I understand all the discussion about "authenticity, history,
    English wheel" and all that.

I want to know what "The Market" thinks........

What if a car was made to look like it was SOLD, then the market, the rest of the world says YES it must be good because it SOLD. Right? It sold for big money !

Think about it ? How do you market a car that is hated by half the community?

Pretty thing sell faster and for higher prices then ugly things. Ugly can am went unsold. Can am turned into a pretty P4--SOLD! Just like that. A real life ugly duckling story.

Some of that ugly went to the bone.....

To get the Can Am ready to run safely would have been a lot (the same???) amount of money.
I guess this got them a better return..
