Well, just installed my new GT Car Parts fuse box. Fuel pump still doesnt run. So I removed the fuel pump relay (again) and hardwired the connections to see if it would work and she fired right up. I tried other relays (i.e., the horn relay) and the fuel pump still wont activate - only when I hard wire the relay connection in the fuse box. Ive also hard wired the brown wires in the white W 10-pin W connector to the board, since that connection was melted - like ..... all.....the others Thoughts??? Is something causing the relay not to trigger? Thanks for any assist......
Edit: wanted to clarify, when I say hardwired, I "jumpered" with a wire betw the relay slots in the fusebox for relay pins 30 and 87 and pump runs. Pop a relay back in and pump doesnt work. Only other issue might be the two brown wires Ive hardwired into the number 4 slot of the 10-pin W connector where they commonly melt.....maybe that connection isnt secure. Thoughts?
FWIW On my ex 308 I powered my fuel pump off of an electrical tab near the ignition coils. There was a block there that had a couple unused tabs that only had power when the key was in the on or run position. I might get fireballed for a shadetree type set up, but I basically bypassed the fuse panel/relays completely. I had an inline fuse on it too and had many years of trouble free operation. Not overly familiar with modi's, but perhaps they also have a spot in the engine bay you could grab power from
When you remove the relay, jump from the female plug 30 to female plug 87 and the fuel pump should run. If she run this cricuit is good. If not something is wrong. Then you have to check if female terminal 85 and 86 receive their 12volt signal. Use a test light with each end in those cavity. If light is off relay CAN'T clic because no power to energize it. Turn key on what happen? does the light come ON? If it does everything is right. BTW be carefull when you flip relays. They are NOT all the same. Check the numbers on it. Sounds like in your Fusebox power is not getting to 85/86. If the FB is new then it could be in the wiring to the FB. If you have your old FB then you can take it apart and see where the power might come in. If not then you are hunting with a DVM or trying to read the wonderful Ferrari wiring diagrams.
Would love to see a pic of this-also, anybody who has actually worked on these cars has something they've done 'shade tree' to it-Enzo was not an electrician
I sold my car (1980 gtsi) in july and never took a pic of my set up. But I found this pic on line and in the general area of the circle I had an electrical block with a couple unused male spade terminals that only had power when the key was turned to on or run, so I just tapped onto that with an inline fuse. I think I found it because I was looking for a place to power up the radio. It also made a pretty simple anti theft device cuz you could quickly unplug the wire and no fuel/fuel pump.... hard to drive away a stolen car when it wont start. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for all the advice....traced the issue back to a relay. Shes runnin good now......especially with the new GT Car Parts fusebox
I think it was an alternative-not Bosch but it was a few years ago. I remember it was only one of maybe 8 I ordered (the relay that most of them are one the 308) and the rest worked fine-at least the ones I've used so far
Nice-and you have to love the high tech anti theft device. My anti theft device is the fact that most folks don't know what my car is b/c it's a GT4!
