Every new car drops in price. The guy who buys this will have other TRs to drive around... Trust me on that. :)

I can't imagine anybody buying a Testarossa for over 100k and it not being a 512TR, and red at that.

The 512TR will eventually be worth less than a flying mirror, or a single bolt 87 like this car because of production numbers.

I have long thought that really good single mirrors will eventually rival the 512M in value.

We will all be in the grave long before single mirror TR's rival the value of the 512M.

    Interesting discussion
Imo. There is a major generation gap between the single lug cars and the 92 and up cars.
The 88, 89,90, 91 cars are stuck in the middle
The single lug cars are of the classic boxer era and the 92 and up cars are just new cars.
    Great new cars.
Like aged wine though, time trumps technology.

Perhaps you missed the 1986 Rick "Sand Eggo" owned two years ago that sold over 100K.

At the end of the no one has a crystal ball to guess on prices. Like prime real estate, those who want it bad enough will need to pay the price to get it. It happens everyday in my office daily.

I think the days are gone where one would pick up a TR because it was considered as a give away price and I don't want to use the word "cheap" because these cars are not. :)

She is absolutely stunning, just look at sexy bi**h...

    Finally, a voice of reason!!

Where was this car up for sale a few months ago? Was it listed on Dupont, Ebay, etc or was it from a private collection unadvertised?

I find it humorous that some people keep touting the virtues of owning a single mirror car as "the collector" when prices, in fact clearly state otherwise.

I understand that for some the single mirror is the way to go but please do not mix fact with fiction. Sandy Eggo's car IMO had more to do with low miles and condition then it being a single mirror provence. I believe it might have brought more at auction had it been a latter year production model.

At $160K, are you looking to double your purchase price in a few months?

Some people have a hard time grasping that as we speak.. the Ferrari Market is in a state of Flux.
f40's have tripled in 12 months
288 has tripled in 12 months
f50 has doubled in 12 months
246 dino has tripled in 12 months
275 Nart has set the Ferrari world on fire

    OK...Whats left...just the 512's....all of them.
    Am I wrong?
I think we should all wait , before making judgement. For the big Auctions to happen this Month..
This is eerily reminiscent of 1988
The expression then was " you can never pay too much for a Ferrari "

I believe you will see that ANYTHING Ferrari collectable , Rare and in reasonable condition is going to fly..
    Sky High..

There is an underlying Frenzy of sub chatter that what I say is true..

Not to mention....The economy is _________________________________ back !

Time will tell. At one time 250GT 2+2s were considered substandard and essentially worthless compared to the two seaters.

    The car is indeed stunning.

This car was for sale on eBay. The original ask was $99k. I briefly considered looking at this car because it was relatively local but I just couldn't talk myself into a black TR.

Ferrari Testarossa 3875 Miles with Complete Very RARE 6 Piece Luggage Set | eBay

There are interior shots there as well.

While I agree that TR's are on the rise, (I just purchased an incredible 13k mile 1990), asking $160k is quite speculative. Why not enter into an auction and see what happens?

Hope you get it. Rising tide lifts all boats (or TRs).

    Not true.

I have seen it many times and in fact we did it ourselves.

For less money (and that can be calculated as either inflation adjusted or not) someone gets a brand new Testarossa that either they could not afford when new or they were too young to buy. We got ours with less than 1000 miles and have been driving it ever since. All the patina is ours and we like it that way.

That being said I agree 160 is high but you can never predict buyers. I had a clients 87 go to auction 2 years ago in Scottsdale. Solid $50k car, hammered at mid 70's. He was positively giddy.

Maybe I'm wrong but these cars have been hovering around $1M for years now. Hard to believe the've even doubled.

As for the 246 Dino, $300k has also been stable for a few years, no?

Either way, my thinking is similar to all markets in a frenzy, bubbles form and bubbles burst. I would prefer to see steady justified appreciation over out-of-control parabolic or exponential monuvuers.

It was not that long ago that F40's were 550 to 650 and Dinos were 190 to 220

Ferrari of New England sales of new and Ferrari Approved certified pre-owned Ferraris serving Massachusetts and Connecticut

Like I said, The Auctions will solidify any doubts..lets wait and see..
Dealers set the pace with absurd $$$...then all of a sudden they are a bargain.
It happened with the daytona's in 88...remember Mid America exotics..they started it and then it became history

Hold on a second.. I'm confused.. Car was on ebay for $95,000.00 with 3800 miles.. showing last engine out at 2,711 miles.. Now being sold in the $160,000 rhealm with just over 1,200 miles.. OK.. Please enlighten us.. I think $160,000 is a pipe dream as well unless you bring to auction and a couple a drunk wealthy owners decide to have a pissing contest.. Can some one explain the odometer difference.. Dont get me wrong she is nice and all. Whats distrubing is the purchase of $95,000 range with mileage at 3800 miles.. Now $160,000 with 1,200 miles.. Oh but wait it has the luggage set..

...guess we all have short memories and are doomed to repeat history...doesn't ANYONE remember the fallout from the absurd prices of the late 80's?!!...I LOVE testarossas -but 160 large?!!!...when there is a readjustment (always is) the more mass produced cars of any marque take the largest bit ...rare cars of a particular model( 512M) will not depreciate as much...personally I would get better enjoyment out of a well maintained-records -no stories car that would be in the asking range of about 100,000 dollars less...this car I could drive the snot out of sell it for about what I paid ....driving a "new " car with low miles and accruing miles depreciates it-NO MATTER WHAT CAR IT IS...we are talking about a car produced in significant quantity...EVERYONE , whether wealthy or not, likes value for their money...racking up miles on a 160,000 dollar tr will depreciate it EXTENSIVELY from purchase price...if one buys this car to park then it will maintain a higher value...my thoughts with ANY ferrari though is that they should be driven to be thoroughly enjoyed

Robbie can you provide more information porfavor? Odometer shenannagins are a big issue. I would like to debunk or prove this claim. Not being a smartie pants as I love a good investigation, but I dont recall this car on Ebay recently. If what you are saying is correct...."Lucy, you have a lot of splainin' to do!"

Edit, your right it did show 3,800 miles in the ebay auction: Here is the ebay ad for 69039:

The car has 4000 miles now,
Never said 1200, it went into deep storage at 1200.
    That was 1988/89
came out of storage in 2012 and was driven by PO's

Bottom Line is..There is a Time to Buy, and there is a time to sell..
Now is the time to buy...I can pick what price makes sense in an escalating market.
This is a no excuse car...You don not have to buy it..I have 2 Testarossas,
    Only need one.
The price is mine and and any interested party's perogative..
    any other questions?

Seems like you are all pesimists..I believe the Market is on the verge of an uptick.
    ALL the signs are there....now.
I may be the first one on board...But I believe ..and I have the car that can get that #.

We will revisit this thread in 6 months , cant wait!

    I looked into that car...
I do not like that interior, Brown, Tan, red...not sure?
for some reason that car sat at that dealer for a long time..
Now it gets scooped up, days before the big auctions..More reason to believe we are on the verge of an escalation.
Its a game of musical chairs, the music is on now....find a cheap seat for soon none will be left.

wouldnt be surprised if someone here bought it!
