Bob, do you happen to know of a Red/Tan CT that was in the North ATL area in the late 80's early 90's? Just curiosity, cheers!
Today, Alpine posted this on their facebook page. I found it interesting that the car is like mine (with the older 2 stovetop air vents in the engine decklid), but they are painted body color instead of black. Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login
Do you know if it was a Fuel Injected or DD version? Tony (the guy I bought my Countach from) told me he thought the first, and original owner of mine was someone in the Lamborghini club in Atlanta back in 1986. Mike
Bpb. what do you have? How bout emailing me! Chadbourn Bolles 803 532 6257 803 798 3044 cell email address: P.S. - Still have all the USA DD parts if anyone has any interest.
Mike, I think it was a side draft car red/tan.... but I was chasing it down the street on my tricycle at that point so anything is possible.
The Countach seats look very spectacular but are they comfortable enough? do they offer a good lumbar support?
Vic, so refreshing to hear a Countach owner speak candidly about the car! We all love the cars, but the seats are one of the weak points of all pre-89 Countachs, and their unfortunate shape affords the exact opposite of lumbar support! You are sitting upon the pivot brace and can feel the frame of the seat on long drives. As the insert padding sags with time, the seat is a pain in the butt (literally). A comfortable & secure seating position is essential (for both comfort and safety reasons) in a car with the Countach's performance capacity, and I'd wager the seat is one of the reasons many are not used very often, certainly not on any long trips. Having said all that, they are fun for a short blast. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Adjustable only for distance & rake, us tall guys find the pre-89 cars difficult to get comfortable in. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Joe, I have to disagree with your comment regarding the pre-anniversary seats. I find the seats on my 87 relatively comfortable (but maybe my ass-et is shaped a little odd). I was talking about the anniversary seats with Jeff H. from Calgary at a 50th event in Billings last summer. He mentioned the seats in his DD Anniversary were " horrible" compared to his old car. He asked me to sit in the car, and I came to the same conclusion. The seats, while more adjustable, lacked support and just didn't feel right, at least to my unsophisticated derrière. However, if these seats work better for you that's great.
I don't find any model of Countach seats to be that great, but with the 25th at least I have the adjust-ability that a relatively tall guy (6' 2") needs. As regards your comment that you find the seats of your earlier car relatively comfortable, I'm sure others do too, but, for how long? You can't deny that the shape is the opposite of what you need to afford lumbar support.
On driving a countach, I would say the first 30 minutes would have you believing you could drive the car forever and never tire of its sound, feel, looks ect. Within the following 30 minutes of driving you will find your spine literally is bent in the wrong direction in the lumbar area, and you will want to get out.......... Just a fact of the car, but they happen to be the best looking seats ever put into a road car in my opinion. I will happily deal with a bit of discomfort for the experience. Very small tradeoff. The driving position after some adjusting to is great with everything falling to hand compactly. Love every second in that car. On that note, I've driven other super cars where I last about the same time on before the back hurts.
i'm just over 6 3 and my shoulder blades and butt touch the seat... that's it. I'm not uncomfortable but i've never driven over 2.5 hours either. Yes they look cool but you can see that they actually curve the exact Opposite direction to lend any "support". My best friend loves his but he is a short guy.
Had a long ride in a friends replica once most comfortable seat of any car ever, he was 6-2 and said the original design was murder on his back, so he changed the design, it would not be a major to have a shop modify it, maybe not original but very comfortable. this car was still under construction so some panels were still loose. graeme Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Easy solution, use a cushion, I have even one with a countach pictures http://www.countach.ch/LCCG/Nuembrecht_2010/DSC_5080.JPG
I have to agree with Jeff H. About the 25th seats. My first 25th I put over 15,000km on it in one summer and those seats are terrible for long distances. I had bought a small pillow for my lower back. Not just for support but because I have trouble getting the seat set for my height. I'm 5'7" and with the seat all the way forward I can reach the peddles but I need to recline the seat or else my head will touch the roof. In this position I place a small pillow at my lower back and it seems to help. The other issue is that the 25th seats are very narrow, they pinch each side of your butt. I'm 155 pounds and I wonder how small your butt needs to be to have the seat not huge you so tight lol
Opinions on the seats will depend largely on your size, shape and proportions. I'm just under 6ft and long in the back, my head touches the roof, and have the seat all the way forward, but my 6ft 1" mate has long legs, the seat pressed against the bulkhead but space above his head. We're both about 180lbs/80kgs. I've never suffered back pain in the car, and I'll drive 150 miles quite happily. As we all age and "spread" we may not fit into the narrow seats anymore..
I agree. When I sit in mine, the shape somehow reminds me of those banana bicycle seats I sat on as a kid. I've found the seat fairly comfortable on the few short trips I've taken sitting in there.
