I'm buying the book! This thread convinced me! My wife trained me that when I hear a bunch of whining, complaining and groaning, I reach for my credit card and start spending money!

    Thank you Mitch!

I would be genuinely pleased to see any other GTO books that are composed in the future, meanwhile, please enjoy this one.

Anytime I look at it, I'm happy I did it, and you are SO right, publishing a book takes time money & patience - lot's!

I think that bringing all those archives together in one single place, plus the other elements of the book, makes for something that people are clearly pleased to have. That was the idea, and I think it worked.

Tim, I think this thread has been helpful as a venue to discuss people's expectations, and has afforded me the opportunity to respond, for which I am grateful.

I also think that you are on to a notion that often holds true!

Meanwhile, I can see there have been 2 more good reviews on Amazon:

Product Reviews: The Book of the Ferrari 288 GTO: Amazon.com

"Excellent reference book about the 288 GTO, January 5, 2014
    By Bidaud
Excellent book, with high quality pictures, never seen before stuff and a very useful "chassis numbers" section.
A "must have" for 288 GTO owners, and even for every Ferrari collector and enthusiast, at a very low price considering the quality of the book !"

    And

    "Compliment!, January 4, 2014
    By Jochen Linke
It's an absolute masterpiece - hope that many other Ferraristi will like it - really good job, Joe!"

    Hello from Germany,

sorry if someone has already mentioned it in the meantime, but maybe you missed it, that not too long ago everybody registrated on the Ferrari Owners site could download ALL Homologation papers for free.

I still have all of them on my harddrive and among them are those of the 288 GTO.

I have the book too and it's on my pile for ebay or amazon resale.
I was very disappointed, but I like your Miura book.

    Best Regards

    Martin

If one aspect of the book that you have already seen somewhere is cause for disappointment, all I can say is I understand, and thanks for buying it in the first place. Perhaps this perfectly illustrates why the internet is cause for books to become a dying format.

    Best,

I agree to a certain extent but there is something special about a book that I can't get from a computer screen. Maybe it's because I'm a collector(wife says hoarder), I enjoy building up a series of anything wether it's models/Ferrari yearbooks etc.

True. Having said that much of the book's content is exclusive to the book, to be fair.

Truth be told, any published material will soon be scanned and up on the internet, so really, why bother?

I think the reason anyone still wants a quality book is for exactly that reason - quality, and a tangible experience - something missing from simply looking online. A collectible that's well-packaged is something to cherish, and the excuse that certain portions have already been seen is exactly that - an excuse, for me at least.

Meanwhile, this book is selling twice as successfully as the Miura book.

Glad to hear the GTO book is selling well.
Forgot the other reason I love books, the smell. I know, I'm weird!

Not weird at all, the smell of printed matter is part of the appeal of books!

    Hey Joe,

I also was expecting a different book by all the previous teasers and especially by the advertising. In generall, for me, there were to little details about the prototypes (esp. about the carburettored one). The chapter about the Evoluzione was way to short (was hoping to read some new stuff, but all covered in other books with greater extent), was very dissappointed. Why haven´t You taken more pictures of the EVO at the gathering? Like how it looks with the headlights activated and the lexan rear screen opened. Very sad You missed this oppertunity to get these details and differences to the standart GTO (and F40).

Maybe it would have been better to change the format of the book, to put 4 pages of the Owners Manual on one, so it won´t take to much pages of the whole book (same with Spareparts and Homologation Chapter).

Something like a buyers guide with details about the recalls (oil pipes and seatbelt mount) and general problems definitively need to be added in my opinion.

The pictures are great, very artistic, but sometimes to much art work for a book that is made to deliver an overwiev on a rare car (for example the Yellow Tow Hook of the EVO). Was missing detail pics of the tools, materials used, their finish and direct comparison of interior options.

I was more than dissappointed by the mistakes in the register! I don´t know when You were able to change the content prior to printing, but I gave You some details about our car and there was nothing taken into the book. Furthermore my fathers name is listed under the wrong chassisnumber (i once emailed You about this, when i saw it on the amazon preview)!

The quality of the print and paper is very good and it makes fun to turn the pages. The general layout is great (but bad about the unbelivable amount of copies from Homologation, Manual and Spareparts).

Don´t take this too negative, but really was expecting something like a small Dino Compendium (not only in size, but also in extent) for the GTO. For me, Your book is more like "A Book About The Ferrari 288 GTO". But please remind, I am more the reader, that like books like the Dino Compendium from Matthias and Werner Schruf´s F50 Book (deepness on details).

If You make a F40 book (please, please, please do it!), it would be great, if it is not that focused on reprinting the Owner Manual, Homologation Papers and Spareparts Cataloque! I would buy it in any case!

Thanks for the feedback, your thoughts mirror the same points of some who were left wanting.

Having said that, its interesting how many people have asked me after this GTO book to do a Porsche 930 book, Lamborghini Countach book, Ferrari F40 book etc!

We set it up so that future printings can correct any errors & omissions, so be sure to send me specific details of what you think was wrong in the chassis number section to [email protected], including proof of same where possible, and I will gladly investigate further. By the looks of things, a 2nd printing is in the offing sooner than expected, so I'd appreciate it if you do this soon.

Please send me the credit notation as it should be and I will make sure the publisher adds it for the reprint.

Meanwhile PM me your details and I will get that book signed and out to you with a note about your appreciated & published contribution in the Reunion Chapter.

Note to anyone planning in writing a book: once you had over the manuscript to a publisher, you cross your fingers and hope there are no errors or omissions!
