F40 on eBay

Don't see these on eBay too often anymore. It's a 1991, SN 87511 with under 7k miles. I have no affiliation or financial interest in this auction.

Sherman, I sold this car from its first owner Gary K who kept it for the first 17 years of its life till 2008. He tells a tale of being whipped around Fiorano by Dario Benuzzi at the auspices of FNA prior to taking delivery of his own car in the States.

I have no connection with this auction either.

7k miles in 23 years is waaaay too much. Better off parting out the car.

To be helpful, I recently placed another F40 that was in fantastic condition with slightly more miles for $1m, so I'd say its in tune with recent values.

 

Actually they are asking even more.
I called about a month ago and they said 1.3
Way too much for my opinion.

 

Still cheap. I dislike speculative "pricing" threads for regular models but this is a different case.
IMHO we are witnessing the beginning of a blue chip investment breakout. The F40 is north of a $10 million dollar car. Maybe not in this run, I believe it will be.

 

Do you think it's the US spec F40 that's worth $10MM, or all F40s?

The cars are worth what the market will bare as we all know. Today, the market tells us that a choice F40 is worth over a million dollars.
If/when/as the F40 climbs along the 7 or 8 figure road (pun intended) for the top level car, it will drag any or all of the originals with them, just as it is now, it doesn't matter what the mileage is or what it has been through. Today, I doubt even Joe Sackey could find any F40 for less than $350K, wrecked or otherwise. If he can, I'd like to hear from him.

Who knows what it will be worth with documentable certainty 1 month or ten years from now. The car has seen these current speculative valuations before. In a sea of used and relatively, "common" cars that bare the badge, the undeniable fact is that the F40 is special even among a small group of destinctive, ground breaking cars of any marque.

As we pontificate, I wonder what is the price difference today is between the most thoroughly and accurately restored/ cared for 250 GTO and the least cared for (if that even exists today).

Those are standard USA spec two-piece adjustable seats, correct for all USA F40s.

Any froth in the world economy and the collector car mkt will correct. Many cars have simply gone up much to fast.

 

Interesting and so apropo your statement about the Dow. What is the "correct" correction in the car market? I wager that it is a realignment where the next chosen generational few exhault to the unascertainable patheon of Ferrari ownership legend will be priced at.
The F40 is that car.
I believe The Mayor pondered about the sustainability of the collector market some time ago on some thread due to the relatively recent collector "industry" and the fact that the sense of history and the collector mindset would fall to the modern needs and wants of the fickle and instant gratificational youth. I disagree. Though I am intimately aware of the "deeply unpassionate" and in some cases the insensitive and unaccountable youth in general and in business with their fast, careless, carefree sensibility and attitude toward earthy, crafted, old world art however, the old adage that "perception is everything" will hold more true in the future than never before. Also the youth will be richer than we ever dreamed possible. Whatever/however that looks like in the future, the F40 will be among the "must haves" for the burgeoning rich youth that are beyond our horizon. They may not collect for the same merit that we do/did but they will collect and there will be more collectors whether we agree with or condone the reasons and motives behind their drive to "have" and/or collect.
The F40 in the rarest of forms represents a way of American and pinnacle of excess life living, not to mention it IS the 1 finger victory salute if you know what I mean.

Euro front bumper/lip looks better than US as well.

 

Is that a genuine ad? 1998 F40 with a 3.9l engine should be worth much more considering how rare they are....
