991 Targa - retro, cool, both, neither?

I like!!! Although I think it loses some of the manual simplicity of the classic.

Sharp in black. This is way more elegant than the usual retractable hardtop-with-automated wind deflector concept. (But I would delete some of the model designation script on the rear deck... it's getting to be short essay.)

 

I was "meh", but after seeing the top operation, why not just have a complete convertible?

I really don't understand why this was necessary.

I'm firmly in the camp of "total waste of money." Just another overpriced option box not worth ticking.

An elegant interpretation of one of Porsche's classic models. I like it. And I agree with Jon above: WAY too much script on the rear end of the car.

 

no, it really doesn't (and historically hasn't). I think the cabrio looks better than the targa, but even aside the personal preferences the current cab looks remarkably similar to the coupe; the targa looks like a 991 Pacer.

+1 It's not a coupe nor a convertible, but it weighs a shade more than a convertible. It's a car that cannot make up its mind.

I actually had a 86 targa that I quickly disposed of and grabbed a coupe.

 

Just like you said, gorgeous especially in blue!

 

Targas are a nicer way to enjoy a convertible, and was one of my favorite features of my 328. You get open sky, but also less buffetting and don't feel like the world is staring at the back of your head.

I could take the 328 on the freeway with the top off and still have a conversation.

 

Good news for people who like these is they typically have crippling depreciation and almost always lag behind a comparable coupe or cab, so just wait for the hype to die down and get one for a song CPO.

 

I'm also a sucker for a bit of chrome what's not to like.
Just as well we're not all the same!

 

I hope you're right - would love to buy a barely used one in a couple of years when I need a new daily driver.

 

^Oh yeah. Have it wrapped in a throwback color like Aubergine or signal yellow and get the fuchs-style wheels, houndstooth seats and rear grille from the 50y 911...the perfect SoCal cruiser.

 

I like it. I think this would have looked nicer on the 997 and 997.2 than the 991.

The thing I didn't like about the 997 Targas is that the rear window came to a point at the end, which doesn't go with any of the other lines on the car. This is much better than that.

I love it! My favorite version of the 991. I've always loved the classic style Targa's, though.

I love the looks and the targa experience. Gorgeous car. Love the tie to the past.

AND I'd love to see one next to bullfighters speedster.

But when I saw the top operation, I said "why!", looking for a solution to a non problem.

I think a manual top would have been much better for 95% of the buyers.

This reminds me of hard tops on top of stowed convertibles - does anyone actually like those?

I'd give it a look in 5 years... I like it much better than a cab except for the transformer...
