yep, it was his! The only one with a glovebox door so his sunglasses would not fly out!I believe the family (mainly chad), still owns the car and the speedster
It was purchased by Richard Freshman of Fossil Motorsports fame, a Malibu neighbor and acquaintance of McQueen at McQueen's 1984 Imperial Palace Hotel Estate Sale in Las Vegas. According to Freshman the glove box door was fabricated and installed by Von Dutch at the time McQueen owned the car. He confirmed this in conversations with Von Dutch who Freshman had known from his teenage days hanging around Bud Ekin's Van Nuys California Motorcycle shop (where Freshman first encountered McQueen and the car) and later with Von Dutch at Jim Brucker's (another Freshman friend and Harry Miller compatriot)) Santa Paula warehouse where Von Dutch lived out of his bus and worked in his last years. Freshman performed an exceptionally carefully executed preservation directed restoration of the car in concert with Lynx Engineering keeping the original Tony Nancy interior and all other specific McQueen modifications intact after much research of period photos etc.. He then kept it for many years driving it to and from his El Matador Beach Malibu beachfront residence to his shop in Chatsworth California, as well as on late night Malibu area canyon blitz runs and other such entertainment until selling it directly to Robert Petersen personally for the museum in the latter 90s.
Black 355 Spider with Florida plates at the Marina in Long Beach We were in a yellow 355 in the parking lot
I have an entire SD card full from a few years ago I took too bad the SD card is like 10mb LOL maybe longer then a few years We had some stuff on display there and got lost downstairs for a while
Saw a nice 355 F1 Tuesday morning driving on Irvine blvd. through the Great Park area. Sounded pretty good at a stop as well. On the way home, I saw a Pantera at the same intersection that I first saw the 355. Interesting day. Fchatter?
Part of the interior was done in what looked like blue suede. In the photo it is kind of weird but I loved it.
White Countach on PCH in Redondo, sounded awesome... probably been 10 years since I've seen one in "the wild". About a minute later a blue Gallardo going the same direction but it looked so tame after seeing the Countach.
Spotted today a red Enzo, blue Bugatti Veyron Vitesse, Black F12, F355, black 458 with gold rims, Grigio Silverstone F430 Scuderia?, and a Lamborghini Avendator Roadster in the Malibu area.
Today, on "The Snake", I saw what looked like a formula 1 style open wheel race car coming in the opposite direction as I was descending the lower part of the curves! I'm really not sure what it was, but it was definitely not an Atom, or a Prowler and I'm pretty sure it didn't even have fenders, but it it had wide tires, looked modern and sleek and not at all like a kit car. Pretty amazing. Unfortunately I didn't feel like turning around to chase him down and get a pic, but I thought I'd post anyway in case anyone else knows the car. It was around 3:30 - 4:00 PM today and the road was not closed for any kind of movie/commercial shoot as far as I could tell.
That's it! I guess the black outer part of the fenders made me think it was open wheel, but the formula 1 style "peak" behind the driver's head is definitely the same as what I saw. Thanks for the confirmation. What a car!
Yea for $170k there are a LOT of nice car choices out there. I'd also fear driving the BAC on the street - soccer mom SUVs surely won't be seeing these things easily. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Easy solution. Just attach one of those orange triangle flags that you see on the kiddie trailers being pulled by parents on the bicycles! Bahahahah!!!!
