Does anyone here have first hand experience replacing the variators on the exhaust cams with the dummy variators/spacers from the intake cams?

Rebuilding a challenge motor for a project car. 1 variator broke bending valves. I'd just assume to lock the cam timing and tune the variators out of the programming.

Are you going to fake variator signals to the Motronic DMEs, too, so the Motronics do not keep looking for it?

I'm just gonna run a stand alone. From what I can find out, you can program it out of the factory ecu though.

I had two race engines from Italy with variator delete, MAF sensor delete, race cams, high compression light pistons, reprogramed ECU, and retuned intake manifold port lengths. For sure a bit more hp at the top end but idle is lumpy and noticeably less lower end torque.

Do not even borther with stock ECU, almost any Standalone ecu will work with this engine.

Sort-of. You just set the 'desired-angle' (in the ECU) to be that same as the 'actual-angle' (measured running with a scan-tool) once you've locked the cam position, that way the ECU won't report a cam angle error because 'cam-angle-deviation' will be within limits.

As for the oily bits, I don't know, I only do the mapping side of things these days.
