Stealing and copying technology is good enough for the Chinese on a much larger scale so what are we griping about?
The flexible floor of the Ferrari was as illegal as Red Bull´s flexible wings: it´s against the spirit of the rule but it passes the test. The difference is that for Ferrari they changed the test after one race and for Red Bull after one season. But for some reason Newey is a genius and Ferrari are cheaters. Ferrari International Assitance? Maybe, but just sometimes.
I think we all should know this by now... it's only considered cheating if you get caught. The first thing any team does is look at the regulations and find loopholes / bend the rules / interpret / cheat the system / grey area whatever you want to label it, all teams cheat when it comes to engineering their cars full stop. Get over it & lets just hope Ferrari can cheat better than the rest.
I am glad Ron is back in control of McLaren F1. Whitmarsh has proven himself as a great business partner but he is no F1 "team principle".
They don't steal 1% of what we freely give away. If you could reach Steve Jobs now you could ask him why he never built iPhones in California. Everyone in F1 "cheats". If they didn't find ways to bend the rules they would be dead last behind those who do.
The floor was not in compliance with the rules, but it did pass the examination that was used to monitor the compliance with the rule. It was cheating plain and clear. Now I´m a Finn and fan of Kimi, but that championship was not deserved and the whole year was a total clusterf*ck that should be erased from memory.. Does anyone miss Mosley?
^You may have point. In any case, IMHO the cheating should be amongst competitors, and not include the Authority...
Amen. Do we want them to push the boundaries of technology or do we want a spec series?, there is no in between. Pete
By definition you cheat by breaking the rules. Which are set by the authority. I'm not sure what you mean.
My point is that the possibility of is cheating is not desirable, but to be expected among the competitors and the Authority´s job is to monitor the compliance to the rules. It is a very unusual situation to have the Authority colluding in cheating, or even being the instigator in cheating. This is what we used to have during the Mosley years. The interpretation of the rules used to change on a whim to support the what ever political agenda Max used to have at the moment. Todt has been a massive improvment in this respect.
Gotcha. When the authority cheats it's called corruption. In modern F1 the only sin is to upset the flow of money.
I should be a fortune teller maybe. Just received this via email from Facebook: Name is still the same on their Page at this moment - I would guess this will take effect in some coordinated effort on Monday or Thursday. Seems to imply they won't have a new sponsor as some have predicted though unless they will make another change following that announcement. >8^) ER
Whitmarsh seems like a nice guy but I'm wondering if he doesn't have that edge that's needed at this level of competition. Would he be better than Domenicali if he took Dom's spot? Not sure. It seems like Dom has the same qualities as Whitmarsh, nice guy, but doesn't have that edge. -F
Yes, I would agree. I didn't say interviews are important, just that those two nice guys are more suited them. Haha
Everything I've read the the team say to Autosport in the last month or so indicates Honda is providing much more than just engines. They may not need a title sponsor.
It could get tricky if their road cars were using engines from say, Toyota. That proved to be the challenge in the early relationship with Mercedes, when the McLaren F1 (which was still being produced) had an engine from their main rival, BMW. The only product overlap between these two companies will be McLaren's future 'P13' offering intended to compete with the upper echelon 911s and Honda's new NSX. I think the McLaren will be the more track-focused of the pair so there will be a clear distinction between the two, though they will still in many ways be competing for similar customers. >8^) ER
No - details are still fuzzy, but my current understanding is that they are two entirely separate cars that will be competing for a similar slot in the market. This won't be a case of Lamborghini Gallardo & Audi R8 platform sharing if that's what you assumed from my previous comment. >8^) ER
