I was searching for video's of a GTO and found this.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKfVkHxpwBo]HistorX - Ferrari 250 GTO - YouTube[/ame]

Now I want this set up -- or one like it. I don't game at all. I would need to start from scratch.

Anyone have direct experience and knowledge of the best bang for the buck. I've seen some high end systems are 10k to 65k. That's just silly. What can I get for under 1k? In particular I like the three screens, the realistic wheel/shifter.

    Thanks,

The game looks like a bunch of fun but the steering seems pathetic. I'm not sure how realistic the engine sounds are for the car, but they sound great on my phone.
It's a cool game, one for flying would be nice too.

edit: ps. Sweet928, I have a 88, 928S4. When I saw your title I couldn't help but peek at your profile.:)

Gurslo, I was wondering if there was some kind of retail store to try out these set ups but doubt it. Seems like fun though.

I'm over on Rennlist with the same name. There's video and pictures of my 928 over there. She's really mint with some fun mods. 79. I've owned four 928's over the years. Two s4's. My 79 is my favorite for it's original body and 70's colors (petrol blue and cork) The mods make it a entirely different beast.

That's more than in want to spend for gaming. I'm looking for under a grand. For 8 grand I'd be more inclined to put some fun mods on my actual car(s). Headers, muffler, upgraded brakes? Etc.

Same here.... The shifter and other equipment seem very well built to take the abuse over the test of time, but for now I'll have to settle for the real thing and wait for winter weather to break. Toys like that are definitely worth keeping an eye out for.

If you want to keep the budget under a grand, what do you have to start off with? XBOX 360, PS3, XBox One, PS4, computer capable of playing games? If none of the above, add your choice to the cart and continue on.

Next, the seat and station - you can buy an off the shelf one for a few hundred, or make your own with a donor seat from somewhere. It depends on how much you'll sit in that seat as to how comfy it must be. The stand for the steering wheel and pedals must be strong enough to hold the forces you put into it, similar to a coffee table. The cheaper seats/mounting devices have a pole that runs up through the middle of your legs. This can be very uncomfortable (I have one), and can be made slightly better if you have a higher end pedal setup where each of the pedals can be moved around.

Next up, the pedals and wheels - you could go with a Fanatec system, but keep in mind compatibility between systems or any compatibility whatsoever. You can get a cheaper wheel/pedal setup for under 200 bucks, but it will only give you so much feel on the wheel and nil on the pedals. The more real you want it, the more money you need to spend. There are always better / less better wheel setups, but read the reviews and bite the bullet when you decide. Used is a good option as well, which can save you a few bucks here and there.

Check out these guys: Inside Sim Racing - YouTube They have lots of setup reviews, and even DIY seat setups in their videos.

But like others have said, if you want the setup above, you are looking at the very least $4500.

Thanks. Used is ok. I'm guessing guys grade up. What's the going rate on a 5k new set up if it's used?

If you're looking for under a grand with a 3 screen setup, I don't know if you can do it tbh. For single screen, grab a ps3, logitech g27 and gran turismo 6 and buy a $500 dlp projector and game on a 100" screen.

If you want triple screens, you'll have to buy a decently powerful pc which will eat up most of your budget by itself.

    Yes it does!

I've never driven a GTO, but I owned a 330 2+2, and I have to say that the steering in the first video is awful. Not realistic at all.

I have one, it's for sure the future of sims. If you're computer savvy, get one instead of a three screen setup as it's much more immersive.

I'm potentially considering selling my Fanatec Gear since I never have any time to use it anymore.

    Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 RS v2 wheel
    Fanatec CLub Sport Pedals
    Fanatec CSL Wheel Stand

Everything is in atleast good, if not great condition, but are 3 years old now. I even have all the original boxes and packaging materials for them.

I just have no idea how much these would sell for used, and not sure I want to give them up yet.

Would anyone watching this thread happen to have any idea what the going rate for the whole kit would be? New the whole thing would be $520 +tax + shipping.
