Been approaching/complimenting exotic car owners since I was maybe 13 (only 17 now), and sometimes I think all of these ridiculous reactions you guys receive convolute how you react to me! I've learned that the best way to strike up a conversation with an exotic owner is by immediately showing that I'm not just another obnoxious teen about to say some snide remark. If I just say "Nice car" all I get is a blown off thanks or maybe nothing at all. But if I say "Nice 458, don't think I've seen another Nero Daytona one around" then the owner is almost always impressed and willing to talk. Funny how that works, thought I would share!

probably put this story on fchat before, but i was reminded of it today.

sometime in 2002 i was flying out of oklahoma, and the security was massive as the tsa hadnt been fully organized and there were national guardsmen everywhere etc. anyway, as i was going through the security line at the airport, i get picked out for a random frisking. i was wearing my usual safari type travel jacket, and had a small ferrari pin stuck on one of the pockets. the young soldier checking me out sees this and asks what it is, and i replied that it was a ferrari pin. he looks quizzically and asks 'is that like a cult or something?'

    i replied, 'sort of'.....

I've been 'randomly' stopped at the police checkpoint barriers outside Canary Wharf so that they could check for bombs and take gunpowder residue swabs. This happened both in my 612 and FF.

Never take a TR to the Woodward Dreamcruise. Must have gotten at least 3 "Magnum PI's" and 2 "where's your mustache?"

"Unfortunately, no. I can't get it to stay at only 88mph for long enough to time travel."

    :D

    All the best,

Were I prone to the snide my response might be "if it were I wouldn't be here, or now"

Actually it surprises me how the Bertone family style is recognized by people who aren't into cars.

Well, it's a great family-although I may be a little biased! Daring stuff, and that's why folks always do a double take even decades later

It's also fascinating when some of Bertone's cues bleed into other manufacturers cars such as the 1st gen Toyo MR2

I always thought 1st gen MR2 was a direct knock off of the mondial. I remember turning 16 and driving one when they first came out. They were cool cars back in the day especially when the poster ferraris were way out of reach.

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery there's a long history of sincerity in automotive design.

I believe it was Bill Mitchell who when asked if the then new Cadillac Cimmeron was a Mercedes copy replied "Mercedes no. Rolls Royce. When you steal you Rob a bank not a bakery".

Typical dumb "how fast does it go/ is it real/ is it your parents?" remarks. When I had my 1970 Ford Torino, I remember some college aged girl (I was 17 at the time) came up saying "My husband would give his nuts for your car ...hell, he might even let you keep me if you let him drive it." Then Ive been flashed multiple times on my sportbikes. Been flashed once or twice when I had my Camaro SS.

Either way, the Ferrari loses when it comes to other people's reactions.

This thread is amazing... Made my day reading the whole thing. My wife can not read this thread. If she does I'll have to get a divorce to buy my Ferrari. Guess somebody is a good lawyer right? Haha

    Best one was
"You bought this fcking car didn't you!" Laughed until I couldn't.
Not Ferrari bu a Honda guy yelled at me wanting to know where my mullet was, simply because of my red 89 Camaro...
    Enjoy the drive!
    Nick

The funniest comment/question I can remember is, once I was driving my Maserati QP
In Boston at Boylston St, a mini van taxi pulled next to me at the lite. The driver looked at me,while smiling, and asked me if I wanted to trade, mine is a money maker, he said.

I have heard "Corvette" many times.

But the one that kills me--and I mean kills me is this . . . "Oh is that a Ferrara?"

I also had a guy once walk past and say to his friend . . . "hey, that's a Barchetta."

His friend said, "No it's not. See the Ferrari horse on the side?"

The first guy turned to me and said, "I apologize for my friend." I cracked up.

A few weeks ago I was parked in Blackhawk Plaza in Danville, CA. As my wife and I walked to our car I notice two young men looking at the Ferrari.

One of them ask me, "What do you think my Toyota would do up against your Ferrari?"

I looked over and saw he was driving a nice looking black Corolla. Might have been his parents car as I think he was still in high school.

I answered him, "Don't know, when was the last time you had the Toyota up to 150?"

    His response, "Oh."

He turned around and walked back to the Corolla.

You should have added "150mph and still accelerating"!! At least he new it was a Ferrari and not a new Mustang or Corvette (no disrespect towards either vehicle).

Oh man, I had this exact same debate a few weeks ago. He argued that aerodynamics will eventually merge towards a common style. I later sent him this.

Yes, apparently that fat bumble bee looking thing is more aerodynamic than the conventional supercar.

Got a new one the other day that gave me a smile. Couple of 40ish guys in a pick-up roll past me in a parking lot, and the Driver leans out a bit and says to me: "You know, you're really pushing the envelope there" -- I had to agree with him ;)

Out for breakfast in a mountain town today, older gentleman asked me "what did I give for it?" When I didn't asnwer him right away (couldn't think of a funny enough come back fast enough), he said, "that IS your Porsche outside isn't it?" His wife said, "no, its not a Porsche, it's a Corvette."

I politely just said it's a Ferrari, to which he replied "Oh Lord, I don't want to know what you gave for it then!"
