Sam Michaels' is going to be team principal.

I don't understand. Everything Michaels' has touched in the last 10 years or so has gone to ****. And now he's been promoted within the team.

    Adios Mclaren.

Amen. The first person I would have sacked. He really is the touch of doom for any F1 team.

    Ouch!.....

I thought you'd be one to 'defend' your fellow countryman! ;)

The question remains though, now that Ron's back in charge how much 'power' does he really have? I certainly don't claim to know, but is he just another fall guy if it all goes tits up again?

    Cheers,
    Ian

Eric Boullier seems like a good choice for Ron - Great first move ?

    Agree.

My source was Taki Inoue. Normally quite accurate but perhaps he was mistaken by either the person or the position. Perhaps he meant ''chief sweeper'' for SM.

Agreed - was just coming here to post that. So the Ross Brawn chatter was all just a diversionary tactic, eh?

I can also see Boullier's golden boy heading to Mclaren if Magnussen doesn't impress.

    Unfortunately.

Does he have to remain on the sidelines for a while given his former position or can he go right to work for McLaren? I'm not clear on that.

Always liked him in the interviews and for the most part under his leadership the team made good calls as far as race strategy. Keeping Lettuce around was a bad decision, but otherwise I like the guy.

They've had terrible strategy calls too. Lost a couple of easy podiums by stupid calls their drivers (Kimi at least) never agreed with but tried anyhow, and backfired hard.
If he has another season like 2013 he'll be good. If he goes back to his old ways it's game over (or should be). That's if they get a chance to race this season.
    Bouillier.

My guess would be that they breached his contract by not paying him, so all bets are off?

Not sure about European laws on the matter, but at least here in CA you can't stop someone going elsewhere in their field of expertise if you **** them over......

    Cheers,
    Ian

If "Auto Motor und Sport" (Germany, usually reliable) is to be believed, they say this morning that Lotus and McLaren are battling for the same main sponsor, "a japanese high-technology manufacturer", which "Auto Motor und Sport" suspects as possibly Sony.

I can only assume that Lotus are offering to deck their car out with massive Sony logo's for Sony to even consider them as an option against McLaren!

From next season McLaren will already have a massive Japanese presence with Honda coming on-board and they are renowned as being a technology company.

For Me, Sony going with McLaren would be a complete no-brainer!

Except for their involvement with Microsoft in the gaming world on the automotive side - that raises a bit of a question for me.

I hope they do land SONY, and then there is more Japanese money coming from Honda, if not already now, then certainly next year.

Frankly losing Boullier to McLaren (potentially) is a big hit to Lotus. I'd find it questionable to back a team that just lost their pretty effective Team Principle.

Profits are thin at Sony Corp so IMO it's hard to believe they are looking at title sponsorship.
