My 1980 308 GTSi is finished in a grey metallic. The paint label provides a numerical code, but not a name, for the colour. Does anyone know what the 'official' name is for this colour?

I have done some research on your behalf but have not come across anything on the internet that list the official factory name for your paint code so I put in a call for you too FoH and left a message with all the important info. Playing with Ferrari over the telephone is a "learned experience" so I mentioned something along the lines of a restoration project. I also contacted Sphere Motorsports here in Houston and the owner (we had a very poor connection) recommended I speak with FoH (Ferrari of Houston) aswell.

Many thanks for the effort and input. Didn't believe the colour would be called "anthracite" as written on the Bill of Sale.

They can indeed color match any shade, they have a fantastic paint system in the State of the Art Body Shop.

You should go there and see if Steve Eghed needs some help!

If that works I am amazed but there are the MODERN codes..

Your 1980 (and mine) operate with the older system numbers.
FoH can sort them for you...

No, anthracite is indeed a dark grey metallic shade, IMO that's correct.

Where FoH or Sphere? I have absolutely no paint or bodywork experience. Send me a more detailed pm so I do not get off topic but I could use all the help I can get.

I'm refinishing and painting the exhaust cover on my 308 due to the black finish wearing (due to heat) in the middle area of louvers. Would someone kindly offer any information as to the proper black finish i.e. gloss/semi/matte. thank you kindly. Michael

I can't look up the code, but perhaps I can determine the color by the serial number - can you post the serial number?

Hi, Rick, have you checked the underside of the rear deck lid? A car that early should be painted in a Salchi color, and so the label would be sort of chrome-ish with a series of barely legible numbers on it.

Hi, Robert - I'm assuming you already know this, but your car's original livery is Rosso Ferrari 20-R-187 with Pelle Nera VM 8500. I'm sorry that the sticker is no longer on your car; it would make a great edition to this thread.

It doesn't look green, rather it looks like it could be Azzurro California or Grigio Alloy - the latter being a very light blue that, in certain lights, is often confused with silver. But I don't see any hint of green in those images.

Here's a new one for the list - it's the name of the color that Ferrari uses when a car is ordered to be painted in matte black. A Ferrari representative said that the matte finish can be ordered in any color.

Celeste Met is the light blue but I think the 599 is Verde Celeste which is light green.
There was also a Celeste Gainsborough color in the past! Another light color from the blue family of shades.

LOL, you posted it in a thread years ago after you received the car's Heritage Certificate: Rosso Ferrari 20-R-187 with Pelle Nera VM 8500 interior, built 28 April 1975, motor type F106A 040. On the Heritage Certificate, the model is listed as 308 GT4 USA-JAP.

We can add Nero Setoso to the list - but if anyone has any information on this color, I would like to know. Like, for example, is it still in rotation, and why is it seemingly so expensive?
