I'm in...
If it's Ferrari only, than Sam, I guess you and I are out. I've been to almost all of Sam's ROE and always felt welcome, amongst the Fiats, Lambos, Corvettes, Ferraris, Fords, et al. I should probably say, I only want to come if I can hang out with people that drive cars that go up in value, and stay out of repair shops. J/K, the winter weather is making me a little crazy. I've always chosen who I drive out with, I don't need to lose my license or have my insurance bumped.
Roger is a great guy with a VERY nice car...I'll leave it to him to say what if he wants. In any case, I did check with the manager of Montauk Manor. She would love to host on May 3rd. I can't think of any reason not to take her up on this! All needs be done is get an idea of who and how many. But I do get the gist of what everyone is looking for. Adults having a nice time without acting like morons on the road. Small group or groups of drivers. No prepayment and the flexibility to cancel and reschedule in the event of rain. Sound right? I don't think it needs to be ONLY Ferrari to accomplish that, but it's not my call. I'm only offering a bit of help if needed. As Roger points out, I no longer even have an f car...but I'm still going to meet you all at MM if that's what you decide.
Ok. Let's do it! Now what if the FCA finally gets back to me and wants to piggy back on this? I don't expect for them to add many more cars. Probably 10 or less. I say we stick with the original plan to rally out there together. FoLI is more than willing to lend us their parking lot to meet as a starting point. I already contacted Laura at FoLI about a possible FCA event staging area at the dealership. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I didn't realize that some of the already involved people did not have a Ferrari. In that case I'm totally against "Ferrari only". Every car enthusiast should be welcome on a non formal event....just my vote. The next question is: Do we want to limit the amount of attendees? I have at least 2 or 3 Ferrari friends that might be interested and possibly another 1 or 2 non Ferrari friends that may be interested.
Yep, Ferrari only is much too snotty for me. I have friends with many beautiful cars and they do not own a Ferrari - their choice, like Leno.
Somehow I missed that Sam and Roger didn't have Ferrari's so of course let's roll with it being a "car enthusiasts" rally. I have a friend with a '75 Triumph Spitfire that would love to participate. As far as the FCA, I will have them pick another date. Let's start the planning now then and May 3rd it will be. If it rains May 4th? I think the route should definitely include Old Montauk Highway though since it is very scenic and so fun to drive. Do we make a stop along the way or just head straight out there? Sam...Will the MM have food available to us? My vote is to stop at The Lobster Roll in Amagansett if not. I think the season opening day for them is May 2nd according to their website.
MM has a restaurant. It is not very big. They would definitely need to know how many people to expect, and then if large numbers let us know if they can accommodate. Alternatively, food can be ordered in. May 4th is probably OK as rain date
Not a Ferrari owner, just a teen with a camera, but I would love to come to this! Located in NNJ. My dad has a good friend with a 430 Spider so maybe I'll see if he's up for it!
Bump. A little bit closer! May 3rd two months away. Hopefully everybody that responded still in. Took my 430 out for a spin yesterday to Ferrari of LI and now I'm really looking forward to the nice weather.
Maybe start a car count? PM to you or list here. If you all still want Montauk Manor as meeting point they are up for it!
Here's who expressed interest either by responding here or PM'd me directly: mdwfa2001 duscs1k MPressiv23 Eli355 dwhite SkiBum Jeff348 MidKap sjmst Up4speed RPM217 Spyder631 YeloT drBob101 Cashout1 Falcon7x bball46 JohnB Ferris Bueller vintageFerrari330 Some of those who responded said they would invite a few more of their friends as well. So right now we are at 20 including me. This will be a great turnout if everyone comes. Montauk Manor sounds like a perfect destination unless anyone has any objections.
Steve, Where would the initial meet up spot be? I am not familar with the Hamptons and coming from South Jersey
I will ask Ferrari of LI if we can stage there. If not, there is a rest stop between exits 51 and 52 on the Long Island Expressway (495) where we can meet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There is also a nice big Park and ride off of exit 58 LIE (north side) where we can meet. Or right on the N/W corner of the LIE and Service road (just to the right of the park and ride), an empty parking lot where Hooters used to be...too bad they are closed now Plus everyone can top up their gas right across the street, just before we continue east.
I would see a "to do" list as follows: 1) Intital meet up point 2) Route for the caravan 3) Food or other stops planned? 4) Meet up time at Montauk Manor
1) either LIE rest stop between exits 51/52 or as Up4speed suggests, exit 58 2) LIE To Exit 70. CR 111 South to Rt 27 east 3) stop at Roadhouse BBQ in Sagaponack or Lobster Roll in Amagansett 4) 2pm ish? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
