Sure seems like the first few races are going to be 'he who finishes scores points'! Front wing falling off suggests someone got it very wrong to me..... Fascinating that with the millions they all spend most of 'em can barely get out of the garage! Love it! Cheers, Ian
Here's the failed wing: the carbon fiber holes which mount to the pylon via bolts (two each side)failed. Brackley is reinforcing and shipping the wing now. What a delicious car though, mmm. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Agree. I'm expecting to see 9/10ths running by the second session. This is all about reliability and getting the cars to stay on the track without breaking down. I think I'm going to like the sounds of the new V-6's (Ferrari's specifically). It's similar to the sound of the '80's turbos (which I loved), but that new MGU-H & K systems gives it a jet-like sound effect in addition. Bring it on!!!
Sorry to be pedantic here, but there's no such thing as 'a carbon fiber hole'! J/K, But again, I'll say someone ****ed up! (Hope it's not your buddy! ) Cheers, Ian
+1 Also seems the Cans aren't having the greatest start either! Many millions spent, many thousands of man years in development and many of them can't complete a lap! Awesome!..... This is F1 the way it was meant to be! Cheers, Ian
Great lines all around, culminating with a "beak" at the front instead of the other protrusion we've seen. Caterham is the Cyndi Lauper of the group with!
Sound is great. Sure, not as good as V10/12 but from what I was expecting this is god send and I can easily live with it . I think maybe Ferrari and a chance for Mercedes and STR will run at a decent speed tomorrow. Ferrari got their car going ok after the morning niggles, whilst Merc was doing well-ish until their carbon failed. STR also put in a long stint. I've greatly underestimated it yesterday! I'm sure the biggest issue's will have been sorted by bahrain though. They'll have a LOT of data then and can then sort out the hot running
As usual, right off the bat newey's car looks the cleanest, slipperiest design so far. Very little clutter. Th rest of us need them to have a tough year with their mechanicals.....
IMO, you can't tell anything from the design. I thought the Lotus last year looked very bulky and it was fast.
True enough however if ugly wins, it can look better, then again the best looking at min I'd say is RB closely followed by the Merc. I got a feeling RB will be a race winner again...
I think the RB looks most like the last generation F-1 cars, so that has an obvious appeal. However, I like the looks of the Merc most because it is a step forward without being obnoxious. Ferrari isn't bad, but they found a way to make the nose dimensions strangely curved. Had it been a more progressive slope like the Merc, they'd look fine. At the end of the day, I want to see how they run though. I do think the sound of the Ferrari is the most appealing of those I've heard thus far. That's a plus for the Scuderia, at least.
Added this to the preseason thread as well- aesthetically I think Williams did a fine job. Image Unavailable, Please Login
They seem to be doing something, not sure what, with that nose (and who knows what else) that NO one else is doing. It will either win big or loose big.
The front is somewhere beween a Durex condom and a beak, but it looks smooth enough to me. Certainly better than Force India, STR or Caterham.
We are going to have to come up with new terminology for multi car crashes. Cluster f**k? An f1 orgy?
Watching the SKY reports from the day. LH interviewed and said saving fuel will be part of the strategy this year. Hmmmm. Its a sprint race type series not endurance. Not nice to hear from a driver. Ferrari did well and sounded good. Hopefully more teams will be out tomorrow and the really WILD predictions can begin here Glad F1 is back!
