New listing for a toolkit on Ebay with No Reserve: Ferrari 246 GT Dino Factory Early Tool Kit Series L Series M V Nice Condition | eBay Freeman
Thank you Matthias. My toolbag for *03932* looks the same except has the flap on the right. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/206-246/347142-fantastic-amazing-journey-dino-%2A03932%2A-3.html Freeman
Hi Freeman, It is interesting that your tool roll opens to the right...mine also opens to the right and is mine is identical to yours with the off-white upper flap. I was showing my car at Cavallino last weekend and the judges were critical of my roll and said it wasn't correct (and in fact indicated that its likely a reproduction) because it doesn't open to the left. I am fairly certain that my roll belongs to my car (#3666). Have you been able to get any further info on these "right side" rolls and their application? Anyone else's comments would be much appreciated. Thanks,
Good news... There does exist RH opening tool rolls, in fact Keith and I were discussing this recently and they are not that uncommon. Check out the 206GT tool rolls, lots of RH opening ones there (no creme lining though). I've noted several cars in the #03000's range (earlier E-series) with original RH opening tool rolls with creme liner under the flap, including Freemans car and your Dino lines up with this also. I have an even earlier E-series with an original LH tool roll so possibly the RH ones came in early '72. Also, it's possible some came with early L-series however I've not found any confirmed original L-series RH opening rolls so far… unsure.
It seems the saying is true again "Nothing in the Dino world is absolute", which makes Dino forums and The Dino Compendium so helpful in our affliction and affection towards these cars. I obtained this tool kit in 1994 and it is like yours. What do your snaps look like? Thanks for the feedback everyone. Scott...I have attached pics of my tool roll. You can see that the snap on the right hand flap is plain (and not the same as yours), but the snap by the pliers is identical to yours. Andrew...it is comforting to know that you have seen a number of these RH rolls before. Hopefully they weren't produced by some aftermarket company many years ago. Does anyone know the story behind these RH rolls? Could it have been the result of a change in supplier or that someone at the factory discovered a supply of 206 rolls and replaced the top flaps so as not to waste them? If anyone out there has a 206 roll, could you tell us the style of snaps you have...it might tell us something. all my three early tool bags (206 GT RH roll, L-series LH roll, M-series LH roll) have the same knobs.... pictures are from 206 GT RH roll Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you Matthias. The fact that a small detailed item like the snap style is consistent with known "original" tool rolls, really gives us strong evidence that these RH tool rolls on some E cars are at least authentic. Matthias, would you have any knowledge as to why or how these random RH rolls were delivered with some E cars while the majority of E cars have the LH rolls? Very interested in an answer if in fact an explanation does exit! It would be great to hear from anyone else on this matter. Cheers,
Hello Jamie. these random RH rolls seems to be quite rare. I would think anything is possible... even produced the other way around by mistake (made in Italy ;-) Regards Matthias
My RH bag as seen in the thread about my car http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/206-246/347142-fantastic-amazing-journey-dino-%2A03932%2A-3.html has the flower pattern on the snaps. I got my bag from a previous owner of *03932* who had the car since 1977 and was the bag that came with it. Freeman
