Completely agree. IIRC, I think it is very close to a blue/black colour Mercedes used to have, called Orion Blue.
I think that deep down, he actually knew the time already, but I didn't want to push the friendship too much.
you're absolutely ridiculous. we're talking about super high risk driving. keep it up. natural selection at work. enjoy your life how you want to. it'll very lucky if you only take yourself out. several incidents around these parts, people 'living life' as you put it, spirited driving. unfortunately they ended several innocent lives in the process (people going about their business, trying to get home), not including their own.
I figured that, just wondering why he is not willing to show the car number he raced. Its not like its not pubic knowledge if he raced during an F1 event (08 or 09 Canadian GP?).
the discussion about safety does raise one issue to me...street driving is inherently very dangerous in many ways but chief amongst them for me is the lack of safety equipment we deploy. no helmets, no cages, no fire extinguishers...and then when you add in the performance of these super cars, 900hp+ and it does get a little nuts...be careful out there. here is a pic of the interior of my cup car, notice the safety afforded the driver. Excuse my bluntness, but you called a friend who didn't ask the question of Mclaren and won't, hasn't seen any evidence but gave you his opinion that he feels they went sub 7.00 because they seem happy with the car? I thank you for the effort but little was gained from that IMO.
lemme get this straignt, you routinely drive north of those speeds (150-200mph) daily? on public roads? and what the heck does that question have to do with anything? who ever said not wanting to go fast? we're talking about differences in acceleration at seriously high speeds. nice jump in. wait, I just figured it out...you live near the Autobahn and the traffic there has gotten so much better that you can cruise at super high speeds at will.
that is a wild post. obviously im a mclaren fan and so it suits my ears just fine, but honestly and i've asked this here before, why is sub 7minutes such a big deal for either of these cars when a lexus lfa or a dodge viper can get within 15 seconds of it? can we stay and topic and discuss the facts? i mean there is no way a 918 wasnt going to go 20 seconds faster than a 997 gt2rs?
yep, thanks for the effort. but what I got from all that is essentially, they're happy with the car, and "of course we did". nothing new.
come on, this is ridiculous. You do understand that, no? It is about a friggin laptime. These are not launchcodes for the missiles that could end the planet. You friend takes himself, and McLaren, wayyyyyyy to seriously. Really. And when has Ron Dennis ever got an 'end game'? What does that even mean?
it changes nothing. and you are right, it's a lap time, not a code that could lead to doomsday. Ron Dennis's end game? He wanted to sell 500 cars, couldn't find the customers so he changed it to 375 to make it 'more exclusive', he wanted to annihilated the competition, wanted to be KING of the Ring...found the NS much tougher to master than they thought, so have decided to just leave it at "of course we did". His end game is to manipulate accordingly.
you guys do know that ron dennis has been going racing to the 'ring with various teams and in various roles for almost 50 years? not sure anything about the place could have 'surprised' him
the BIG difference is that those companies left no one in doubt. they gladly let the world know. don't know if you remember, way back in its development, many experts were estimating the 918 to be 'only' 10-15 seconds faster than Carrera GT. There was NO WAY it was going to be over 25 seconds faster! thing is, you can't just guess, or take things for granted. you only now think it's easy after the fact, now that the car has actually done it. you cant just say, car A did it in this, so car B should easily do that. there's always underestimating and overestimating potential. complete honesty, I think the Mac went a couple of seconds faster than 918, after going back multiple times, pulling their hair out, and throwing everything including the kitchen sink at it. they found out how hard it actually was. they won't release a time because Porsche is going back again after latest refinements, and should be even quicker (rumored 7-10 seconds)
i disagree. you can take certain things for granted. like horsepower. so if the 918 corners and brakes just as well as a gt2rs(and obviously it will do it better), then its straight line advantage given roughly a 50% horspower difference is worth at least 20-30 seconds over a lap. follow my logic?
so he's been regularly racing at the NS for nearly 50 years? surely you mean the Nurburgring grand prix track attached to it. completely different can of worms.
I'm calling it now (as I've long suspected). after all the sweat, balls, and tears, they went sub 7 by a few seconds, meaning not good enough after Porsche is set and done with the matter. being happy with your product is fine, but expected them to be thrilled because they demolished the competition. they're waiting to see what LaF does, but that could be a long wait, and Mac would be just fine, they can stay hush that much longer... except they said they would NEVER reveal a time...so what does it matter what LaF does?
they stopped racing there in the late 70's because it was too dangerous. the track (NS) has changed very much over the years. don't know how much Dennis has been a part of, regarding NS racing
