As he died of Smoking related disease I guess they needed something else.

Ferrari's are "Crafted by Marlboro"? I didn't know that...

I understand that Marlboro does sponsor Ferrari but claiming that Marlboro "Crafts" Ferrari's is truly pathetic.

Perhaps the 458 bodies are all shimmed with Marlboro cigarette packets to get the gaps right? :p

BTW, I bought "Blue Jean Cop" (called "Shakedown" in the USA), on VHS back in the day and so, based on the "CRAFTED BY MARLBORO" poster, I would like to announce that I crafted the Ferrari P4/5!

(It's pretty much the same claim! - I just didn't spend as much money as Marlboro did! :D)

Marlboro is just taking a tobacco leaf out of Jim's book by crafting a Ferrari based car?

I'm trying to discern whether the text was supposed to say "Crafted by Maranello" and someone got it wrong. Then someone else comes along and says: "Oh, then let's add a smoking warning to the image too."

It's a bit blurry, so can't really figure out what that little brown area off to the right is supposed to be.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Looks like a tacky, out of touch, foreign market, ad campaign for Marlboro. Looks Arabic or something like that.

Its odd to see a tobacco ad these days.

BTW The third Marlboro Man to die of a smoking related illness passed this week.

The ad is probably for a cigarette packet designed by Pininfarina. Crafted by Marlboro has to do with the cigs. "Inspired by perfection" has to do with the Ferrari.

Taking another closer Look at the poster I suspect you're right and that the small square in the corner is a cigarette packet designed by Pininfarina and that's what the ad is referring to.

If that is the case though it's a poor piece of advertising as it is not clear as to what the "CRAFTED BY MARLBORO" was referring to (as highlighted by the response from both Napolis on seeing it in person, and others seeing the posted pics - including Myself!).

I think both tag-lines are referring to Marlboro cigarettes rather than Ferrari, and the inclusion of the 458 and gated gear-lever was supposed to simply show that Marlboro are linked to Ferrari and aim for the same kind of standard with their product that Ferrari do with theirs.

As I say though, as an advert it's a poor effort as it's trying to be far too clever and requires too much thinking about.

On initially seeing it, it appears to be an advert for Ferrari with a Marlboro link - When it reality it's a Marlboro advert with a Ferrari link.

Here is how I view things:

"Smoking Marlboro's and Smoking Ferrari's: Both are expensive and both are not good for you!" ;)

True. Very confusing. PF designing cigarette packs for Marlboro is a bit sad as well IMO.

Quickest story about it I could find.

These ads are a lesson on bad use of visual hierarchy. We are pre-programmed to read from left to right, up to down. The information they are trying to pass with the ads is that perfection in the form of Ferrari & pininfarina design is what inspired the creation of the new black line of cigarettes, whose box is on the WORST place it could be in the ad - Bottom and right. It's the last thing you see, and can be confusing, although I have to say I understood it as soon as I saw it. But the kind of mis-interpretation we see here is considered a very very bad result for ad campaigns, because it can really go south quickly, particularly when it is shared.

It's not a particularly clever ad. It's just bad design.

And I agree that Pininfarina making Cig packets is sad, but we know that Pininfarina needs money desperately, and that PM has a lot of it to dish out.
