Nice views from the cockpit into SFO. Pilot's View Of Airbus A380 Approach And Landing At San Francisco
am i mistaken or the germans seems far more in control compared to the koreans. no sweat here. i am amazed by the level of computer assistance in the approach. just fly the plane with the two top knobs for speed and heading. I know there arent many airbus fans here, but A380 remains amazing sight. just a shame doors do open apparently by themselves in flight....
Nice video. I gather from the washdown at the end that this was the aircraft's first revenue arrival at SFO? The Wagner music in the background was a nice touch. So if you're larger than a "Heavy" you're a "Super"? Does that apply to 747s as well?
747's, the 400 at 875,000 lbs and the -8 at 987,000 lbs are just "heavy" and are based on weight. I believe the "super" thing is unique to the A380 and not based on weight. Not 100% sure on that though.
.....or maybe just Airbus arrogance?? Seriously, though, since I know that certain aspects of the A380 (such as the location of the outboard engines) limit it to certain, pre-approved airports, maybe the "Super" designation is warranted.
for the pilots: I noticed a lot of tower/radio frequency changes on approach, is that normal? seems like a great opportunity for confusion at the exact wrong moment.
Cool video, thanks for posting. I can't get over how slow and lumbering the A380 always looks. It always looks like it doesn't want to fly. Give me a long haul Boeing anyway of the week. Mark
yes, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it's just me but there's something about the design of the 380 that is just not naturally "beautiful" like the 747 or other Boeing designs. Maybe there's not much that can be done with something of that diameter fuselage but I find that slanted nose kind of ugly in profile. It is quite a machine though.
Very cool...I've been on the A380 from FRA into SFO...nice flight! I'm not a commercial pilot, but it seemed pretty normal to me; norcal to tower to ground.
You should hear it on the ground. Ops, ramp, metering/clearance, ground, tower on separate coms while running checklists and trying to navigate the taxiways. At night in the snow = even more fun!
