ZF S5-17 Wanted

Hello to all,

I'm looking for a ZF S5-17 gearbox for a 61 Maserati 3500 GT.

If anyone has any leads I'd appreciate it.

I've found a few parts boxes, and 3 ZF S4-17's but I really need a 5 speed to be correct.

Be prepared to pay a lot of money (10K) for a good one as all the BMW 507 owners like to convert the 4-speed to 5-speed.

Almost all these cars have only the ZF S4-17.

 

Sorry but no key leads but I did see the bell housing for sale on ebay so it may be a point of inquiry. Do you have a transmission or is it missing completely. My shop here in the UK (google MST) is a miracle worker with the ZF and builds them for racing. They did my S5 24/3 5 speed and specialise in the 18s. If it is to get it working with the bell housing something could be done bespoke. If it is to get a 100% original item then you will have to follow some leads.

We have re-manufactured sets of synchronizers/synchro rings for the ZF S5.17 5-speed gearbox for the Maserati 3500 GT Touring and Maserati Sebring.

We have tested them and they work very well !!!!

These sets are impossible to find, and it is for this reason that we have re-manufactured them, and we don't have that many !!!!!!

This did not come up in a search as there are no numbers but it is a 3500 gearbox and housing.

 

Seems to be a 4-speed ZF S4-17.

A quick question. If the 4 speed is available can the internals be rebuilt as a 5 speed or is it just too different. Perhaps I should be asking my gearbox expert here in the UK. Just a point of interest….

Thanks Will, but I need a ZF S5 17. I could make the S20 work but then you have to modify the transmission tunnel and the shifter sits too far back. So the 20 doesn't fit.
