does anyone know how many 918's have been sold/ordered to date?
The irony, races a Porsche Supercup and then turns around and questions the ability of Porsche to engineer a car. Be that as it may, you do express your opinion in an entertaining way. When I first saw the 918 I didn't think it was that impressive (hot weather testing seems to be an on going event for the 918 in South Africa, there have been around 5 or 6 examples driving around) but the reviews are starting to appear and maybe the car is impressive but I do question the need for such a high kerb weight.
You don't understand physics too well, do you. Hit a pothole or a squirrel with the mass and speed of a car traveling fast, it won't do squat. A squirrel? Small rock? Seriously? You wouldn't even feel the bump. If you are so worried about acorns and ice from branches/wires, how do you ever get out of your fortified bunker? I guess your butler does all the shopping for you, when he is not typing your posts to protect you from carpal tunnel.
Nice one Zack. I guess your butler types all the same responses for you when you're out on your 'spirited' drives. extreme attitudes such as yours perpetuates the stupidity out there. granted you're in the minority, but all it takes is a minority to crash into a light pole at 150 mph, flip over half a dozen times, slam into a car nearby and kill a innocent person. that person just happened to be someone I knew. thanks for enjoying responsibly.
again. waaaaay off. everyday, something new to laugh at. conservative figures account for varying conditions that testers might encounter on any given test day. cold, hot, air pressure, track conditions, etc. it's the companies have that have to quote 'optimal' times that should get the whip. "it went 0-60 in 3 seconds after 15 tries, under perfect conditions". blah.
batteries and e motors, and associated drive assemble are heavy no way around that given current tech.
DRIVE550PFB, you sound like the one who needs a lecture...if, as you say, you've gone over 200mph, now that is RECKLESS. i wouldn't dare dream of that type of driving. the pot calling the kettle black, is it? me, myself, i keep it to sane speeds
There are plenty of legal ways to drive unlimited speeds on public roads. Utah fast pass, silver state challenge just for starters. I hope to run those events in the p1, and in the case of the silver state challenge, probably still not fast enough to be competitive!
I appreciate your honesty. And as I also say honestly, the P1 was significantly less than 7 minutes and much less 918. And for me it does not matter if you believe me or not. And if they do not give the time, they have a good reason that i think everyone will understand later.
My 200 MPH runs have been on tracks and airport runways. The fastest I have gone on a road is about 180 in a Porsche Turbo on the autobahn in Germany. I have done 150 many times in Germany, but those are roads where the speed limit is unlimited. In the US, in the Nevada desert, I have done over 150 many times, but this is in dry conditions with daylight. But, hey, I have admitted that many of these runs were foolish. In Germany, I routinely go 110 to 120.
You realize this happens to people driving at 55mph everyday right? You realize that if the government had set the speed at 65 or 75 or 85 or 95 or 150 you would be saying the same thing, right? Don't be a sheeple. The speed limit was concocted for fuel economy reasons, back in the 70s. Please don't be so myopic and open your eyes. Cars have come a long way. So have roads and safety innovations. Don't blindly parrot what the nanny brigade tells you. Houses catch fire and people die. It doesn't mean we give up building houses. Kids drown. We don't stop swimming. Anytime people come into contact with objects moving faster than 15mph and having more mass than 15lbs, it's gonna hurt. A lot. That doesn't mean we ban everything except fluffy pillows. It's called life. Some of you need to get one, and shed your self-righteous indignation before soiling another set of undies.
Doing 110 or 150 in Germany is no different to doing 110 or 150 in the US, except for the violation of laws made up by (sometimes very foolish) men. The laws of physics remain unchanged.
Speed limit is for public safety. You don't want to plow into the back of little old lady from pasadena driving her 1960s buick. At 180mph youre traveling the better part of a football field every second. It takes special roads and conditions to make sure you don't take grandma out.
You have eyes, don't you? Just open them and look. I have yet to plow into a grandma when doing 180, even without the benefit of special roads and conditions.
Dont be foolish, your eyes wont be of any help because as soon as you see it will already be too late. Hey, if you want to take yourself out thats your choice, it just improves the gene pool anyway. Just leave me out of it.
It's hard to do 160+ on public roads, and you can't really sustain it. You go, go, go till you touch it and then you ease off, exhilarated at having touched it. On a fast bike you can scream along for maybe a half mile to a mile. Obviously you have scanned the roads before the attempt, and obviously you do it in places where you can see a good half mile ahead. It's a lot more dangerous at 90-130. You can sustain that all day long, in traffic, and chances of an unwelcome meeting with grandma (more so than usual) are much, much higher. That's where your self-righteous indignation should be directed. This is a stupid debate. It's easy to end all speeding issues. Ban cars altogether, or force gps-enabled speed limiters to be installed on each car. No doubt people would find something else to whine about then.
Are there any updates on the warranties the manufacturers are giving to their batteries yet? I think I remember Porsche was 6/7 years.
Sorry to the rest of you folks. Those were greek by the way. Yeah I can imagine the malarkey... it all sounds greek to you!
Man those updates worked well on the 12c Just took my 12c for a spin. Sick, sick, sick, car Neither Ferrari nor Porsche have an answer They've been updating their cars for 40 years now.....
