I hired a restoration shop in Lancaster (Custom Classics) to do the metal work and paint on my Ferrari Lusso last year. He had done a really poor job on the rear deck lid that needed repair and when i pointed that out he quit. Subsequently i had the car stripped back to bare metal when he failed to provide the pictures of the metal work pre-primer that was stipulated in our agreement.

He had not done any of the metal work and instead had covered it with bondo up to 1" thick. We weighed the bond the came off the car at over 50lbs.

It has cots me over $20,000 to get the body stripped, the rear deck lid fixed and some parts made that he lost. In addition i had given him almost $8,000 to start the work.

I live out of state and would appreciate any recommendations for a good attorney in the Northern L.A. area.

Try Dan Baldwin. I had him do some traffic stuff and he was very reasonable and about as effective as can be. His site mentions litigation and he's up there so it'd be worth a call to find out what he can do for you? Good luck.

Have you found a new shop to do the work? There are some great shops posted here.

Really? It's all about homework and referrals. On a Lusso? What was your original budget? You needed to know who you were dealing with. Sorry for your loss, but it's "buyer beware" out there. Were you shopping for a "deal"? You obviously didn't get a deal.

Without a doubt. Lancaster is in Los Angeles County.

Mark, when it comes to any dispute with an automotive repair facility in California, call the Bureau of Automotive Repair first. I had an issue and, after one phone call, the BAR had an agent on the scene that day and the repair facility called me to apologize. They ended up replacing a $10,000 engine at no cost to me. The BAR can and will shut them down for shady practices. A BAR agent knocking on their door is more threatening to them and much more immediate than a letter from a lawyer. Not to mention the fact that it is much less expensive for you.

Thanks for the advice! It sounds like a good place to start. I filed a complaint and will see where that goes.
