Of course it has not used the Can Am bodywork. Yes, the front and rear clams/sections of which were fiberglass (along with the retained doors?). What nonsense!!!

    Please clarify?

I believe you agree that it is not the original 350 Can Am bodywork.

I believe you are confirming that 0858 was indeed crafted from fiberglass. My question came about cause if I remember correctly, 0844 Can Am was actually crafted from the aluminum remains of its P4 body.... but correct me if I'm wrong?

Or are you saying that they could be in period fiberglass pieces?

Will be interesting to find out where these in period pieces came from.

This car is beginning to remind me of the Joseph Campbell book: Hero with a thousand faces.

    and I believe always fiberglass.

We need a photo of the front please, and it appears that #0858 has gone to a good home that is interested in history and getting things right. Must be rich to undo all the mistakes and pay for redoing ... heck!

My post was not aimed at you. Yes, I agree this is not the 350 Can Am bodywork.

I am NOT confirming that 0858 was crafted from fiberglass. It was originally made as a 330 P4 Berlinetta in aluminium with fiberglass doors. When converted to 350 Can Am the middle section was cut down retaining the aluminium sills and main body of the fiberglass doors. The front and rear sections were replaced with fiberglass clams.

Right. I am speaking of the front and rear sections.

Whereas with 0844 I believe these where made by converting the original P4's aluminum.

That's where the confusion came for me.

0844 was never a P4. It went from 330 P3 to 412P to 330 Can Am and is now back in 412P configuration. Yes, I believe 0844's 412P aluminium bodywork was used in converting it to 330 Can Am.

To save Napolis from having to repeat a post, here he is on November 16, 2013:

"Ferrari has clearly stated that the 350 Can engine currentely in Piperised 0858 with clear 350 Can Am tipo, not 330 P4, stampings was NEVER in P4 0858.

"Not 0858's original P4 body. (I own 0858 spyder's tail and have mounted it on 0846.) (0858's original P4 nose is hanging on a wall)

    "Not 0858's original P4 engine."

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142732597-post2376.html

Unless of course Napolis wants to chime in with the news that he has sold 330 P4 0858's nose and tail to the new owner of 350 Can Am 0858.

I dont know if it is the angle of the pic, but it looks a bit longer no? I wish they would have displayed it as it deserves.

Agreed. Hopefully many more pics will be posted that will help to show it better.

Earlier it was said that a picture can be deceiving/distort due to certain angles/lighting.

While I do agree with this, I also believe if the same oddity appears in multiple pics from different angles, it is not the photography but the subject itself.

Will be interesting to follow this as more info comes forward.

Sorry to confuse. I often use P4 as a generic term for the P3/4,P4,412 series. Will try to be more mindful of the correct designation in the future.

I don't think this was ever a question if it happened. I believe people were talking more about the possibility that 350 Can Am body was modified into current Berlinetta Configuration.

I think it is well known that 0858 P4 body resides with Napolis and that the 0858 Can Am body was constructed anew out of fiberglass.

You never know. Pope Francis might sell the Sistine Chapel to Mullah Omar and Napolis might sell his 0858 bodywork to the new owner of 350 Can Am.

    Hahahah...... Right.

Does this "new" nose seem eerily similar to the Talacrest one?

It's only one pic, at a bad angle, and I don't have much time to study it right now, but it seems to have the rounded top flat bottom just as the Talacrest one did.

Hopefully more pics will come out to compare with the Talacrest ones.

0858's original Spyder tail is still on 0846. This nose looks to me to be the same Piper/Talacrest nose. The sill mini andresen battery hole is not correct. The missing Le Mans number lights are not correct. I could go on. The new owner seems to be enjoying himself. What's not to like?

There is another issue here. (Take note Tonga)

Ferrari has unequivocally stated that at Le Mans in 1967 0856 and 0858's identities were

    #24 0858
    #21 0856

They are absolutely clear on that point.

The thought is that as the customer 0850 was not repaired in time for Le Mans they lent 0858 to the Belgians and that the factory entry was 0856. They don't argue that this involved swapping chassis plates and identities of the two car so the 21 Le Mans livery for 0858 may in fact be incorrect. Here are period photo's of both noses. The mirror fairings are incorrect for #21. I could go on.

If Ferrari is to be believed that's 0856.

Either way compare that to 0858 retromobile nose.

Don't want to bother but your pic of number 21 doesn't show Le Mans race in june but rather Le Mans tests in april 1967...

Number 21 at the Le Mans Test Days is mostly said to be 0856.

Do you agree with Ferrari on this? 0856/0858 at Le Mans in 1967 #21/#24

    At the Race?

It is now in period style bodywork, or at least how it once was. It is a clever sentence because of course all the body is new, but at least it now resembles what it once was.
The tail section directly behind the roof is flatter than it should be. I believe this is making it look longer or at least not so coherent.

I still prefer the coupe versus spider format every time and IMO it looks so much better, BUT the grill opening has to change to make it close enough (IMO) to right.
    Pete
ps: I wonder if they put it on the transporter like that to hide the defective nose? ...
