The "rare option" of the dual a/c was indeed rare, as it became standard on the 412! ;)

Owned less than a year because he bought a 308GT4 is a bit of a red flag. What did he find out about the car after he bought it that caused him to decide to sell? Hmmmmmmm.

perhaps nothing John...my experience with 412's is that they sort of had the soul engineered out of them by that point, if you know what I mean...a little too refined.

David G. found that with the 400i he bought and maybe this guy too...and a 308 GT4 would certainly be the antidote for that.

Anything is possible but I'm not buying that. Those two cars are so different that it is hard to believe that someone buys a 412 (apparently without researching or test driving) and then says "Oh, I didn't want a heavy front engined 2+2 grand touring car with an automatic transmission, I really wanted an edgy mid-engined lightweight sports car!"

    Hello Brettski
Valid point on the series I believe the soul had left by the time the 412 had arrived, albeit the 412 ime sure is a great car its just the changes didn't help ie raised boot, beefier as opposed to refined which I thought was what the series was all about kind of what was happening to the xj jags in the eighties.
    Regards

    Hello John
Indeed that's a huge different tack from big heavy GT to sportscar, it doesn't really make any sense as they are totally different. It makes one think that the buyer/seller is either not interested or passionate about either its maybe just a whim! If it is, I wish I had that kind of dough to whim away!!!!!!!
    Regards
    Alastair

    Chaps,

I know the guy selling it, he is a trader.

I have spoken to him reference this car as I was sure I had seen it for sale in the north of England. It was about £17k then.....because of the high mileage...

    Cheers.

    David

I notice it didn't sell at the auction which is strange as apparently it had no reserve. Anyone know the background? Clearly there was more interest in the 365.

Apparently there were no bids at the Silverstone auction, and now it is due to be auctioned by Coys on 11 March. Same mistakes in the description though, ("optional" rear air conditioning, one of 306 RHD (should be one of 306 autos of course)).

If I was to buy another Ferrari it would be a 308GT4, not that this really adds to this discussion but I think they are cool cars. :)

I think the 412 has soul . ..If it is used as a grand tourer. Many fast miles were covered comfortably in these cars in there day.The car has a big heart and lots of torque .Even the automatic can give you a kick in your pants when it decides to change gears. Quite a few ferrari owners used them as their town car .eg Greg Garrison mentioned recently . The looks ? I think the shots of the black 412 in the daft punk video clip are terrific . Long live the 412 even if Nick Mason doesn't like them !

The silver 412 at the Coys auction in the UK in March was sold for £16,520 according to their website. Wonder if it will pop up at a dealer for £30k...
