Anybody know where 1975 Porsche 930 vin 9305700233 is? I owned it from high school until I was 27 and was just curious as to its whereabouts...I sold it to buy a boat. Yes that was dumb!

Yes that is my handle on Pelican. I sold it in 2009 to a fellow in California for 40k that was strong money at the time. Seems like they have appreciated quite a bit since.
I have a lot of pictures of the car. Some interesting things everyone should know.
I bought car 233 from a lawyer in Florida that owned it since I believe 1985. The car was very original. It had a leather wrapped dash with the speaker in the center of the dash.
    The windshield was heated.
It had door panels with no fluting.
It did not have those sport seats.
    It had 15" Fuchs
Single round exhaust (I swapped it for a B&B. That was dumb!)
    Car had no boost gauge!
It had one mirror. The door bottoms were rusty and I bought a set of perfect doors from a later car.
I miss that car...I still have a 69 911 but that 930 was so raw.

It would be great to see additional photos of the car. Did you ever obtain a COA from PCNA? If so, It would be interesting to learn the engine and transmission numbers.

Raw indeed - your '75 930 Turbo without A/C and sunroof was as light weight as they came.

Fun to see the document edge 'closer' to re-unification with the correct car! iDart would you mind scanning all the pages or at least any distinctive pages for the benefit of the thread?

If you have your 1976 Turbo Carrera owner’s manual, it has very similar content to the 1975 manual. Porsche reused many of the same photos (snorkel headlight washer, seat photos, etc.) for both manuals. In addition to the different color of the cover and 930 photo in the front, the main differences are: German vs. English, technical data differences (DIN weight, etc.), lack of emission control data page in the 1975 manual, minor fuse and relay changes (no outside power mirror running on a fuse for ’75, etc.), and the ‘75 models did not have a lighted key (no description for the 1.5v battery replacement).

January 26, 1976 Press Release for the 1976 Porsche Turbo Carrera.

From: Andy Schupack, Public Relations Manager, Volkswagen of America, Western Zone, Culver City, California.

    The “Most” Porsche

The most luxurious, most powerful, most advanced and most expensive production Porsche ever made, the Turbo Carrera, is now ready for its American debut.

Designed for luxury and performance, the virtually handmade Turbo is the ultimate GT car. Standard features include a full leather interior, AM/FM stereo with quadraphonic speakers and electric antenna, air conditioning, automatic heater control, electric windows, headlight washers, rear window wiper, electrically adjustable side view mirror and leather covered steering wheel.

The Turbo Carrera, which is the only turbocharged car sold in America, traces its heritage to the early 1970’s when Porsche developed the successful 917 Turbo which dominated the 1972-73 Can-Am road racing series. Following Porsche’s tradition of using racing as a test bench for production cars, the Turbo Carrera was born.

The heart of the Turbo is a 3-liter (182 cu. In.) fuel-injected engine with an exhaust driven turbocharger. Simply put, the exhaust gasses drive a turbine which forces air, under pressure, into the cylinders. This added boost gives the engine an output of 234 HP and performance to match. The Turbo accelerates from 0 – 60 MPH in about five seconds and has a test track top speed in excess of 150 MPH. The turbocharger also acts as a muffling device giving a quieter ride and eliminating the need for a catalytic converter in all 50 states.

At home on the race track as well as well as in bumper-to-bumper traffic, the Turbo delivers 25 MPG on the highway and 14 MPG in the city, according to Environmental Protection Agency tests. As the Turbo is certified as a 50 state car, the California EPA figures are the same.

While retaining the classic shape of the Porsche 911 S, the Turbo is easily recognized by its flared front and rear fenders, forged alloy wheels and the distinctive rear ‘whale tale’ spoiler. The word Turbo is also sculptured in the pile on the rear carpet.

To accept the added power of the turbocharged engine, the chassis and suspension have been modified, a larger clutch and a new four-speed transmission have also been added.

Even at $25,850, the most expensive production Porsche ever, the Turbo is already destined to become a collector’s item. Only 500, or so, will be built for the American market and even before the first one arrives on these shores, over 400 have been sold.

The Turbo, along with the classic Porsche 911 S and Audi front wheel drive sedans, are sold through a network of over 300 Porsche Audi dealers in the U.S.

October 2nd, 1974 Porsche Cars Great Britain Limited Press Release for the Porsche Turbo at the London Motor show.

    GILDING THE LILY. . . . . . . . . . . .

To supplement the current 911, 911S and Carrera models, the Porsche Factory announce they will unveil the new flagship of their fleet at the forth-coming Paris Auto-Salon. This fully equipped road going model is to be known as the PORSCHE TURBO.

    EARL'S COURT MOTOR SHOW

    1) A right-hand drive Porsche Turbo prototype will be shown at the Earl’s Court stand (no. 123) together with the following exhibits:

    2) Porsche car number one. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the first car to bear the Porsche name (as opposed to design centre projects – i.e. Volkswagen, Cisitalia, etc.)

    3) A Porsche 911 Targa. Today’s standard production open model for direct comparison with the No. 1 open car.

    4) A Martini-Porsche Turbocharged racing car as campaigned in the World Championship of makes to prove the reliability of the turbo system.

Photo caption: In the foreground stands the first car to be built (in 1949) bearing the Porsche name. This car will be exhibited at the London Motor Show, as well as the Martini-Porsche Carrera RSR Turbo. The new 3.0-litre TURBO model will also be exhibited rather than the 3.0-litre Carrera shown in the photograph.

    Colours:
    No. 1 Porsche, 911 Targa – Silver metallic/red upholstery
    Martini-Porsche – Silver/black & Martini colours
    Porsche Turbo – Red/black upholstery

There is no mention of "930" in this 7-page press release expect for the inked "9300" on the back of the B&W photograph.

Registered as GLP 870N, this car may still be on the road in Great Britain and it would be interesting to learn more about it. Being a very early 1975 production 930 Turbo, it did not have rear bumper reflectors but there may be additional unique details about this car.

What year was the lighted key introduced? From what I can tell looking at owner's manuals these were first introduced in 1976. For 1976 the valet key was still the old-style red key, presumably with the paper DOM key tag. When did Porsche switch to the smaller black head valet key? Was just one black key and one red key included at delivery? Someone stated that there might have been two red valet keys zip tied the DOM paper key tag. Are there any period photos of the full key set that was originally delivered?

Very nice photo…note the Cibie light covers and tape on the headlights (daylight running?). Rear quarter windows are also tilted open in this photo.

Post 1457 (S-CH 8158 interior) has a nice photo that shows the door panel without a speaker (w/ Koln standard radio).

There is additional insight on the 1975 Turbo production timeline in this April 15th, 1975 British press release…

    ------------------

    15th April 1975

The first Porsche Turbo models have now arrived in the United Kingdom and are being delivered to those owners who placed their order on the announcement of the new model last October. Each Porsche Turbo, to British specification, is being built to the customer’s individual requirements; delivery for a car ordered today will be late summer this year.

We enclose a listing of the latest technical information as, since the prototype Turbo was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, there have been several technical amendments to the production cars.

We also enclose a listing of the normal “extras” that are included in the standard specification of the Turbo, showing additional standard specification of the British model:

    1. Electrically operated sunroof
    2. Recoil shock absorbers in safety bumpers
    3. Tyres – front 205/55 VR15, rear 225/50 VR15
    4. Back axle ratio 9:36 for special low profile tyres

There is no mention of the ‘930’ model number in the 4-page press release but all the B&W photos have an inked ‘930’ on the reverse. It’s interesting that all the 1975 British 930’s were equipped with sunroofs and Pirelli P7 tires with gearbox 930/32. When GLP 870N was featured in the December 1974 Car Magazine, there was also mention of the production timeline/numbers for British Turbos: “In February, the first production Turbos should start arriving. Already Porsche GB are holding 12 fully deposited orders with eight more probables.”
