The car was restored around 1989/1990 by Del Hopkins and Hexagon and the interior was changed from blue to white then I believe. I knew about the white interior as the car was due to be auctioned by Simon Kidston when he was at Brooks(?) around 1999. I persuaded a friend to buy the car at the auction but the owner withdrew it from sale before the auction.
Is the car still in the UK? There doesn't appear to be any sitings of it, that I know of, for quite a number of years. No photos at any events or on the road, which is a shame.
Last I heard it was still in London with the same Greek owner but I really do not know for sure. It is a shame the car has not been seen for a long time. I'd really love to see it again.
Thanks for sharing, I am still yet to see a Miura (besides the one at Pebble Beach this year) with a misspelled chassis ID plate!
Thanks for the reminder James (I must be getting old!), last I corresponded with him, David C was still restoring it.
All these photos were taken by me. Here's a few more. They were taken in May and June 1989 and this car is 4830 - see the third photo and you can see the interior is white. As I understood it at the time, the car had just been restored by Portman and they were just showing it off, it wasn't for sale. RYY161K is 4830. The other white RHD SV 4822 was in South Africa for many years, but has now travelled elsewhere and is being restored. You've got 4822 and 4830 mixed up (as has the Miura Registry!)- this info is about 4830....oh it's corrected further down. Looks like we know which is which (I think!!!).
Thank you very much, Robert. Great pictures. I almost fainted when I saw this car when I was 12 years old in 1976. I am not exaggerating.
It's a beautiful car and the white leather as in the photos really suits it. I wish I'd seen it when it was with your father all those years ago. There's a much better chance of seeing Lamborghinis in these parts nowadays compared with back then. They were extremely rare in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
The blue leather interior was gorgeous. It went to Porthcawl a couple of times. I wish you'd seen it too. A Miura is still just as rare now as it was back then of course.
Yes, I wished I'd seen it as well! I would say it's much rarer to actually see a Miura on the road now apart from maybe going to shows. I've been trying to find info on the two red Espadas that were here in the 70s/80s but can't find any records of them whatsoever, (one was on CD plates). Would you believe there's actually a Gallardo Spyder and Aventador down here now.
One of the times we came to Porthcawl in the SV there was an orange Urraco parked in the car park opposite the fairground where we parked.
You have to see it in the flesh to really appreciate it. The bright white with gold is a stunning combination. The blue interior was contrasting and better imo. But, colour is a personal thing. One thing you can't sell is a colour.
There was a gentleman from Swansea who owned a white Espada around 1972 -3. I think he owned Nelson's Garages. His first name was Marshall. He also drove a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow with the plate MAR 1. His mother in law lived in the same village as I did, Pont Neath Vaughan (Pontneddfechan), near Glyn Neath.
I saw it in the 80's though can't remember where - possibly Goodwood. Didn't have the same impact as other Miuras at same and other events. (Barry Martina's Black SV #4828 for example)
It probably had the white sills and silver wheels when you saw it and could have needed repainting. By coincidence I worked as a salesman of classic Ferraris and Lamborghinis etc in the same building as Barry Martina once operated from in Kimber Rd, Wandsworth.
Don't think I ever saw the white one. One of the red ones was to do with a construction or plant hire owner, the other, with CD plates remains a complete mystery. Back to the Miuras, the pale blue ex-Iommi car was parked next to a white Miura (not SV) some years ago and they looked superb together. I've always preferred the wider rear of the SV.
The white Miura parked next to the Tony Iommi SV may have been Stephen Keen's. He, as I'm sure you know, once owned the Iommi car.
Well, since your Dad owned the car, I'll risk the wrath of Performance Car by posting a couple of the photos from their article about your Dad's car: Note the blue interior, the colour of the wheels and the sills too. Before anyone comments: no I can't get that last picture any better than this across the page break, this is as good as it gets. Don't get me wrong Steve, I know any Miura is a special car and an SV doubly so. Just white on a Miura isn't one of my favorite choices. I think I actually prefer it white with white sills as posted by Robert from the PC article (Ive got the magazine somewhere) as opposed to with the gold sills
